So we were just in Austin on Wednesday and Thursday for a career fair for my girlfriend. And it got me thinking about Austin's live music scene. While we were there I looked into a show and saw that Mumford & Sons was playing. However, the tickets that were originally $12 at the box office were now selling for $70 a piece on craigslist. That upsets me. Obviously, the market will bare what it can bare. However, if tickets are worth $70 and the band sells them for $12 maybe it was the band being cool [...]

Due to my family-packed summer, and the arrival of the Ack's new baby boy, it's been a while since we've been out to show. But that certainly doesn't mean there haven't been quality shows happening on the regular this summer in Halifax, and this weekend is a prime example. Tonight alone provides you with enough entertainment to last you the whole weekend. The Extremities are doing their hip hop vs jazz thing at the Paragon, with DJ's, MC's and a live band - I pretty much loved The Extremities album , so I imagine [...]

Although it certainly isn't reflected by this damp, gray day, tonight is a hot one for interesting shows here in Halifax. As you can see, there's four items on the docket this evening, and they couldn't be more different. If you're looking for the Ack and I out and about tonight, and really, why wouldn't you be, you'll find us at The Paragon Theatre for Caledonia's release party. We've talked about this band a couple times already, so it's not a surprise that we're interested in seeing them play live. [...]

*Windom Earle performing at 6015 Willow 6015 Willow is an address in Halifax. Over the years the house has provided shelter and acted as a hub for many artists and musicians in the city. As 6015 residents Paul Hammond and Jeffrey Parkers time in the house came to an end they wanted to do something big, so the guys decided to have 20 local bands perform over 3 days and film it. The result of their project is a movie that shows one performance by each band with [...]
Clamouring for a piece of the 80's without having to reach for one of the ubiquitous compilations with the same tired old tunes? Well, let Windom Earle reach back to that decade with their slavish use of a primitive drum machine and synths that have long since been put out to pasture. The effect is not half as scary as you might think and once you get over the initial fright you may even get

I am not sure if I am kranky and not having any imagination picking up songs but a)I had a bad weekend and b) I just finished downloading the entire pop sxsw sampler. Then I tried to build relaxing list. This is what I find. It's Lionel Richie , Debbie gibson , The Beach Boys , The Eagles (ahhhh..).It's the return of 80's... Think New Order and big soulder pad. onoo ... This can't be happening. But don't get discourage. I am only 1/3 through the pop [...]

I was downtown a few months ago when I stumbled upon someone screaming out an offkey version of James Brown's "I Feel Good." It's probably something most people have done once or twice in their life except for two things, he was on a stage and people seemed to really enjoy it. After the song ended, the rest of the singer's band returned to the stage and I found out it was part of a Windom Earle show. As the band's set went on, things got stranger and stranger. Their music, which roughly sounds like M83 scoring [...]
