Filed under: Concerts and Tours There's a lot that seems accidental about Wine and Revolution. From forming the band, to choosing a name, to crafting their songs, things just seem to happen. But they appear to be happening right. While the band may have started out accidentally, it's no accident that Wine and Revolution is garnering plenty of attention outside of their musical hotbed home base of Austin, Texas. Their gritty garage sound laced with modern elements is mature beyond their experience. Their 2009 7" debut release, Edward the Magnificent, has [...]

My day job involves advising college students about opportunities to study in rad places, and all this week I get to give one of our programs a test run by sailing on a 134-foot ship and, literally, learning the ropes. I'll be sailing out in two hours, under the Golden Gate Bridge, and spending a few days on the Pacific as an active member of a working crew, seeing what students experience on their semesters on board. We dock in Monterey at the end of it all. In addition to being a classroom and lab (I [...]

We'll be making our first return to Victory Grill since our SXSW showcase on Thursday night for the KVRX Pledge Drive Benefit Concert. The UT radio station is keeping it local with Austin bands Heartstring Stranglers , Breakfast Club Crew , Sohns , Wine & Revolution , Wild Moccasins , and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) all joining in for the nights events. A suggested $7 donation will be taken at the door which includes free BBQ and beer while supplies last. Things kick off around 8pm.
In my personal journal, I made a post about the SXSW tracks that I liked from this year, which didn't seem to get any interest from my flist, so I figured I would inflict it on people who might appreciate it a bit more. And here goes. --- No, I didn't go. But, thanks to Paul Ford over there at the Morning News website, I got a chance to listen to all the tracks in the SXSW09 torrent file, without having to download the whole thing. And from the 1,000 plus tracks, I have found a [...]

So the countdown has begun in earnest to my first SXSW. I know, right? How did it take me this long to go? In past years I've focused on festivals in other regions ( UMS Denver , Noise Pop SF , Coachella , etc) and wound up without the money or wherewithal to trek to Texas. This year, we change that. Two weeks from Wednesday, I hop a plane to Austin. I couldn't be more excited, or more overwhelmed. There will be a showcase that Fuel/Friends is helping to present (details forthcoming) and lots [...]
Sunday, February 1, 2009 When I told my roommate I was leaving for Chicago this weekend, he left me with these words of wisdom: "Dude, go meet Kanye." Figuring I could spot the man's ego from the descent into O'Hare, I didn't expect the search to take me very long, but unfortunately the catalogue of pictures of me partying with Kanye have yet to be taken. Hopefully, my last 24 hours in the old Windy City will change that. For now though, we'll all just have to settle [...]
