There's a winsome earnestness to Winfred E. Eye. The band, which has been playing shows for 13 years, is getting set to release its fifth studio album, Today Was Another Day. The quartet brings a bit of country, a bit of soul and a whole lot of heart to its music, and "Movin' On" is [...]

Winfred E. Eye - "Two Baby Moths" Winfred E. Eye will be playing Bottom of the Hill Wednesday (9pm, $12) along with ambient post-rock out of San Diego: Tristeza and Drew Andrews , both of which involve musicians associated with the widely known instrumental project The Album Leaf . Tristeza - "Golden Hill" Tristeza is on tour in support of the album that took them out of a three-year lull, Fate Upholds - their [...]
For a limited time, the folks at Antenna Farm Records are offering up a free digital download of Euphoria Is All We Know . This release celebrates the local label's history by featuring songs from the (mostly) Bay Area-based artists that have graced Antenna Farm's roster since 2003, including Papercuts , the Botticellis , Bart Davenport , and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone . More information, tracklist, and MP3 after the jump. The title of this compilation (presumably) comes from the opening lyric [...]

Gifts From Enola It was already late at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, so I was really hoping tonight would be a success despite the venue being half full. Two decent bands proceeded instrumental act Gifts From Enola . Winfred E. Eye First up was Winfred E. Eye with their barn-burning hoedowns and in the Pogues-ian joyous-noise (a stomping "Lil Peck") and sweetly downered folkadelic intropsection (a Wilco-ian "Two Baby Moths"). It was an [...]

Monday edition! Okay yeah I'm late on the Bay Area post but if you saw how my weekend went you'd understand. Anyway, if you made it out to the Laura Stevenson show last night, consider yourself lucky, she's a special gal. Keep an eye on her. Okay, lets get started! Tonight Coldplay heads over to the Shoreline Amphitheatre to entertain the white people, post rock heroes Tortoise and Pit Er Pat are leaving the The Great American Music Hall in awe, folk metal band Wolves in the Throne Room hit [...]

Gifts From Enola Sometimes Virginia based instrumental act Gifts From Enola start with a whisper and end with a scream, but on their latest album, 'From Fathoms', they begin with a scream and proceed into a symphonic odyssey that Aaron Copland might have composed if he'd played electric guitar. The sophomore effort from this band of epic-style prog-rockers, 'From Fathoms' was released on June 9th-and changes all preexisting assumptions of what 'experimental post rock' is supposed to sound like. Intense, instrumental music infused with fatalistic affect, this is a requiem [...]

Oakland's Winfred E. Eye will release, Til I Prune , their first album in near 6 years, on April 28th via Antenna Farm Records. Winfred E. Eye is a ten year plus collaboration between singer/guitarist Aaron Calvert and bassist/guitarist Mikel Garmendia. Calvert and Garmendia first got together in the SF Bay Area in 1999, after stints in L.A.'s Evergreen and Oakland's Cars Get Crushed. The band is named after Calvert's grandfather, and Til I Prune is the band's fourth full length and their first for Antenna Farm Records. audio: Lil Peck [...]

eine breitseite bluesgrass, folk und blues, aktuell, inspirierend und hoffnungmachend, was das land betrifft, aus dem uns zum großteil diese sounds erreichen, aber auch in bezug auf das wetter. ha. diese beiden treten unter einem eigenartigen moniker auf: will kimbrough und tommy womack, aber ihre mucke macht umso mehr freude, ein neues album kommt im juni: daddy - the ballad of martin luther king im märz erscheint nach fünf jahren wieder ein album von dem, dessen namen unvermittelt aufhorchen lässt; "who was changed and who was dead" heißt [...]

I was not sure what to write about today despite having a couple half posts already in the can. But those all fell by the wayside when I heard the lead off track from the new record by Winfred E. Eye . The Oakland based band has been known to pall around with Will Oldham, Jessie Sykes, Smog and The Handsome Family so it should come as no surprise that their take on blues, country and soul is a little dreamier than most straight ahead alt-country bands. The band's new album, Till I Prune , [...]
