I'm not just including this here because the band are called Wintermitts and it's a cold and wet December day. Nope, this is a group to embrace no matter what the weather is like because they always see fit to include handclaps or glockenspiel (they also whistle and do hand stands) and have a singer that sounds remarkably like Emma Pollock from the Delgados (yeah I know, I miss them too). They'

Accordions, glockenspiels and handclaps dominate on the indie pop gem, Heirloom [ buy ], from Vancouver collective Wintermitts . Alternating between French and English, lead singer Lise Monique 's enchanting vocals are a combination of Karen O ( Yeah Yeah Yeahs ), Josephine Olausson ( Love Is All ) and Sue Tompkins ( Life Without Buildings ). The accordion is the sort of instrument relegated to French soundtracks or the older generation, so it's refreshing to hear it used in more modern offerings, such as Wintermitts' Heirloom . Part of the burgeoning Vancouver scene, Wintermitts set themselves apart with a combination of ingredients rarely found in one place: the above-mentioned accordion, flute, melodica, trumpet, and glockenspiel. Add to that the haunting bilingual vocals of Lise Monique Oakley, and you have some very interesting listening. Formed in 2005, the Vancouver-based Wintermitts share duties on much of the instrumentation, which makes for variety [...]

Since forming in 2005, Wintermitts have delighted and accumulated loyal fans across Canada. Their last album, Cascadia Fault (2007), was released independently in Canada to massive appeal, and with their whimsical exuberance they have shared the stage with acts such as Julie Doirion, You Say Party! We Say Die! and Laura Barret. They completed a national summer tour in 2007 and were featured at Sackville, New Brunswick's famous SappyFest. In Autumn 2008, they continue their path of merrymaking, as featured artists at the Western Canadian Music Association Showcase and traveling on a cross-country tour promoting their new album, [...]

Canada...I hate how they flaunt their socialized medicine, bilingual schooling and dapper beavers emblazoned on their nickels. Now they have one more thing to hold over our heads, the band Wintermitts . Frankly, when I got their submission to the site I was a bit skeptic due to their use of the words "whimsical" and "accordion" in their bio, but after a quick listen to a couple of their tracks, I was soon proved wrong. Although the accordion is a bit overpowering at times, overall the songs I heard were really good with this track being the standout. They [...]

web site :: myspace There are some band's you always remember for a certain reason, whether it's for the music or just the situation. For me, the Wintermitts falls into that category. When I first moved to Vancouver, I was staying on Shawn Lapaix's couch until I found a place. I won't lie, living in an apartment with no furniture, TV, phone or food is a pretty boring experience. Being the kind hearted guy he is, he gave me some music to listen to through the factory speakers on [...]
The Wintermitts Genre: Indie / Experimental From: Vancouver, BC Canada Taking their name from a Julie Doiron song the Wintermitts are a bunch of off the wall, self confessed A.D.D. suffering, Canadians. F ronted by multi-lingual chanteuse Lise Monique the enigmatic Wintermitts strive to create thoughtful, unpredictable and unpretentious music which they proceed to smother in the plaintive droning of a squeezebox, an [...]
