Another Kickstarter success story to go with this release, All My Lovely Goners was released on CD and download back on Valentine's day through Signature Sounds , but after a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for an LP release you'll now be able to get the album in the form of a double vinyl release that fittingly is available from today fittingly Record Store Day. This is my first foray into the music of the Winterpills, and I am suitable impressed, there's a lot going on this album a veritable musical feast for the [...]

By [...]

While All My Lovely Goners isn't jaw-droppingly brilliant, it is pretty good in its own right and a worthy listen for those searching out raw honesty and quality songcraft. The Massachusetts band Winterpills is something of a house band for the small Americana music label Signature Sounds. There's a few reasons for this: vocalist/keyboardist Flora Reed moonlights as the label's Director of Publicity, and guitarist Dennis Crommett released a pretty good solo album in his own right on the label last year called In the Buffalo Surround. Thus, Winterpills feels like a "family affair". More to the [...]

>> Should you be so foolhardy as to not be a friend to Clicky Clicky on The Facebook , then you are likely not aware of the most recent recording from Lubec . The guitar-pop band has posted a startlingly brilliant new song to its Bandcamp dojo, so dig the embed below, and then click over to download the thing for free. Oh, right, the song: "You're A Good Idea (Theme From Lubec)" is a melodic tour de force of kaleidoscopic guitar, simple cascades of piano and punchy bass playing. Not bad for an [...]

I first heard Winterpills in 2005 after reading about them in Magnet or Filter magazine. It was one of those perfectly written reviews that make you immediately want to buy the album, which I did. I was hooked. All My Lovely Goners is the band's latest and will be released on February 14th, 2012. Paired with a bottle of red wine, it will make a memorable Valentine's Day gift. Winterpills have also just reached their goal in a Kickstarter campaign set out to "Vinylize the New Album." There are still a few [...]
Winterpills - After 2010's "bedroom affair" EP Tuxedo Ashes , New England's fine, woefully unheralded indie pop band returns with a more fully produced full length of finely crafted, lushly harmonied songs embellished with ambient seques and moods both deep and dark..."we were all pushing ourselves here to make something exciting, emotional, fresh and rocking," says guitarist Dennis Crommet // Release : All My Lovely Goners (February 14, Signature Sounds) // Sounds like: the trademark chamber pop melodies and resplendent, entwined vocals that have been Winterpills' hallmark since ' [...]

Winterpills received a good deal of love on this blog in the early days. Their disappearance off our radar is more to do with their lack of a formal release than a hardening of hearts towards them however. That said quite unbeknownst to us the Philip Price led troupe put out a homemade (don't all their songs sound so?) EP late last year. It is quiet affair but a perfect fillup until the next LP arrives. It is is streaming in full on their bandcamp so to give you an even greater appreciation of their talent here is [...]

Posted at 9:45am, 2/3/2011 Jeremy from Fingertips joins us each month as he scours the betterPropaganda archives, highlighting gems buried a few years back in our database. This month we bring you "Broken Arm" from the Winterpills . "Broken Arm," from the western Massachusetts band Winterpills, has the minor melancholy folk-rock tension of something from the '60s (Simon & Garfunkel? Mamas & Papas?), and I think the thing that really sticks with me is how the hook is, somehow, the first melodic line of the verse. Normally [...]

Photo taken by the amazing garmonique - Flickr I'll be honest with you, this collection of songs was compiled with nothing but mixed emotions and by that I mean, I wasn't able to put my finger on any real understanding of what Winter should feel like. Happy or sad? The undertones of what is otherwise pleasing to look at in nature often strikes differently in the depths of the mind where everything tends to get lost. Although I guess that's just it for me, using music as an instrument to bridge [...]
Fourth release from New England indie chamber pop quintet Winterpills is a home-made affair, six new songs that songwriter Philip Price describes as a "sort of arranged marriage of the wordy epic and the modest haiku." Recorded simply with equipment "set up in the bedroom", Tuxedo (October 5, Signature Sounds) is a brief creative stopover on the way to their next full length, an album already written and ready for studio work this winter. It's also a collection of darkly intriguing, sometimes haunting mini-epics of exceptional quality and intelligence. "This disc scores very high in our [...]

Roma Termini (Train Station) - Lacio, Italy As some of you may know, I spent the last month with my girl friend traveling to every Piazza of Italy. And as some of you might know, that kind of traveling involves bus/train rides that map-out hours-long. And as some of you might know-OK, I'll stop with the tomfoolery and get to the point. I decided to break away from the original format and bridge the gaps between those brighter moments of my iPod's shuffle-mode, particularly during these lengthy commutes. This is a mix of songs [...]

[ Our exponentially increased work and parenting responsibilities have made it so we can no longer adhere to the rigid format we actually really, really like that we've developed for album and show reviews over the years. And so we are creating a new quasi-category for items we are simply titling Remarks. -- Ed. ] Friday night's wholly satisfying Varsity Drag show at the Middle East Up held some surprises. Not the least of which was the supporting act Grownup Noise , a bunch of locals we'd never heard of who were launching or celebrating [...]

Image From Here Damn, I know I am fucked up. All I want to do these days is hide. Hide from life, hide from everything. It feels safer to me. And the weird thing is I feel the safest when I am hiding behind this computer screen. I can't go out to places and am afraid of interacting with people. It is even almost impossible for me to do simple errands like going to the grocery store. I have a severe case of Agoraphobia. And it is fueled by the depression and anxiety I labor [...]
