I don't remember how I stumbled across heycoolkid! but I'm sure glad it happened. It might not be the most visibly mind-blowing music blog on the interweb but the content is great and the music tastes are eerily similar to mine. The theme over there seems to be about pounding the readers with lots of tunes on well-crafted playlists...two things I am quite a large fan of. Make sure to head over to heycoolkid! and throw a bookmark on your web browser. Below is the latest playlist from him/her/them(?). 1. Jhameel [...]
. . .What a great week it's been for music in Indy. Bright Eyes on Thursday, the Head and the heart on Friday (both in-store at Luna and then an impromptu show at The Earth House after the decemberists cancelled) and then My Morning Jacked at white river on sunday. Unfortunately, my card reader has [...]

Enchant me. Winter Villains - "House of Knives" [MP3] Winter Villains - "Thorns" [MP3] Winter Villains - "The Air" [MP3] More Winter Villains on Knox Road | Bandcamp Share:

Tweet Winter Villains are everything I liked about Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and nothing like the bits I didn't. In essence there are in the upper echelons of the new bands that have stolen my heart this year. Chances are this state of affairs will be repeated in the years that supersede the current one, for 5 songs into their output I can't for the life of me find a weakness in their hushed pop formula. The latest batch of tunes were recorded [...]

Being a butterfly with fragile wings I have to be careful what songs I get in a flap about. I lost several buddies at the Wexford Opera Festival so generally stick to songs with tags that include words like 'hushed', 'folk' and 'acoustic'. I'm niche without being stuffy, I mean I'm risking life and antennae for the sake of audio nectar. That's why when I find pollen that is agreeable I swallow it from head to tail. Just last week I fell for a painted lady known as Winter Villains, I like the pretty patterns. Important folk in my circle [...]

Bands like Winter Villains are the reason why mp3hugger exists. There is no feeling I know that quite matches the discovery of a great new band, a creative on the cusp of greatness. And all this from the mere 2 tracks they have to their name, 'Patterns' and 'Icebergs'. I'm sure we'll be returning to the former at some stage but for the moment let's concentrate on the latter. For speed-readers here you go – Call To Mind – Grizzly Bear – Super Furry Animals – British Sea Power. In the case of 'Icebergs' there is also a hint of [...]

So, interesting story. Mostly. Late last night, I was listening to a new band, as has become par for the course writing a music blog and all. (End of story. Just kidding!) I quickly became enamored with their sound, and decided to check everyones's best friend last.fm to see if any tags were associated with the artist, titled Winter Villains. Not only did I find no tags, I found not one single listen . When we discuss new bands, oftentimes they have less than 2,000 listeners on such stat-tracking systems as last.fm. But being the first listener (or [...]
