The biggest comeback of this decade hasn't been by any one band, but by the entirety of the 1980s. It's not exactly a news bulletin that the post-punk, new wave and electro that announced itself in the '80s has wielded a huge influence on the current landscape. On Thursday at the Knitting Factory, a nice slice of that decade will reappear — a 415 Records reunion show featuring Wire Train , Translator and Debora Iyall of Romeo Void . Here's a quick history lesson: 415 Records was an independent label in San Francisco [...]
Here we go, to continue on, with this series. These are bands that were formed in 1983 (to the best of my knowledge and research). I can't say enough about 80's music. I just love it. And, I have already expressed, over and over, my sentiments in previous posts. ;-) I think I will continue on to 1984 and then take a break from the 80's posts for a little bit. Time to get back to some more new music. So, 1984 will be posted up on Thursday and then Friday on will hopefully be some new sounds. [...]

Here's another re-post from back in the early days of this blog: One of the best early Bob Dylan tracks is With God On Our Side (mp3) ( buy album ) from his third album, The Times They Are A-Changin' (1964). It's a powerful song. Read the All Music Guide review here . And if you want more early Dylan, there is a great 1962 radio interview (with many songs performed and a few lies told) here . [...]

image taken from here Sorry about the lack of posting lately, the Black Dog has been seriously on my ass and I have been under. I woke up the other day and realized it was summer, wtf... My whole life is passing me by and I sometimes wonder why I am even still alive. There is no need though for you to miss out on some summer tunes. Just a word of advice, don't ever ever take the good things you have (a job, a significant other, money, a [...]

A couple of months ago, a cherished teenage landmark for yours truly closed its doors forever. Located in downtown LaGrange, IL, Beautiful Day Records was a source of much after school procrastination amongst me and my friends. It really wasn’t anything special as far as record stores go but they did have a decent supply of used vinyl on hand along with tapes and CDs and whatever current new release the public was clamoring for. It was here that I bought almost all of my Who vinyl, REM’s Green in ’89 (on cassette nonetheless) along with U2’s [...]
Ok, as the title says these are bands that were formed in the year 1983. All the tracks are most likely not from that year (although all tracks were released sometime in the 80's) however; the band started in that year. My favorites out of this batch are General Public, Wire Train and Beat Farmers (who I saw live in the 80's while living in Dallas). Check em all out and enjoy! mp3 Big Rock Candy Mountain ( Beat Farmers ) mp3 No More War ( [...]
