Here is my list of the songs I liked best in 2011, which will be the last one we offer here. I only adhered to three rules with this list, really: 1. The song had to be officially released in 2011, 2. I could only select one song for any artist, and 3. The list [...]
It's a rather thin week for new releases, most likely because it's too late for summer releases, and too early for fall releases. Still, there are definitely releases we recommend, including new albums from Peter Wolf Crier, Gold Beach, Wiretree, Balmorehea, and many others. What can we say about Peter Wolf Crier that hasn't already [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Wiretree is ready to release its third LP, Make Up , on September 6th. The Austin, Texas band was originally a solo recording project of singer-songwriter Kevin Peroni. Peroni added Joshua Kaplan, Rachel Peroni and Daniel Blanchard to record the second album, Luck , in 2009. A departure from their previous efforts, Make Up was recorded in the studio with very few overdubs with the goal of capturing natural raw performances. The music is powerful and vibrant, but still intact are the strong songwriting and melodies the band is known for. Listen to their new [...]

Austin's Wiretree began as the solo recording project of singer-songwriter Kevin Peroni. After releasing the LP Bouldin in 2007, Peroni recruited Joshua Kaplan on guitar, Rachel Peroni on bass and Daniel Blanchard on drums to solidify the project. The group released their sophomore effort Luck in 2009, finding it's way on various year-end best of lists (Blurt, Absolute Powerpop) while being labeled Blurt Magazine's "Best Kept Secret." KLRU featured the band on Austin City Limit's "Satellite Sets" in January 2011. The band is currently supporting their 3rd full length album [...]
For most Americans, Fourth of July is an important day - it's the American holiday, and many people look to it as the official kick-off to the summer season (even though summer began on June 22). So, we set out to first pick keywords that exemplify the Fourth, including barbeques, picnics, parties, surfing, baseball, food, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Yet another band from the musical mecca that Austin, Texas has become. Wiretree is a foursome led by frontman Kevin Peroni, and they make solid indie guitar rock reminiscent of The La's, The Sins or The Thermals. If that's not enough "The's" for ya, here's another: the first single from Wiretree's forthcoming nine-track LP Makeup, [...]

Over two albums and the past five years, Wiretree has grown from the solo project of Kevin Peroni into one of the emerging acolytes of power-pop in Austin. Behind Peroni's ranging and easy tenor, the quartet brings touches of the Pernice Brothers and New Pornographers, with a twinge of pedal steel twang and shades of both classic Eighties and contemporary indie pop. It's a melding of influences and sounds that seems to finally come together in Wiretree's latest effort, the band's third LP tentatively titled Make Up , and currently being recorded at Hot Tracks! for a release later [...]
The Sunday-25 Mix series gives us a chance to appreciate the great music that influences today's indie musicians. Sundays are meant to be a break from every other day of the week, and so it seems appropriate to have this type of playlist mix on Sundays. The S-25 mixes will include songs from as far [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

So what happened in 2009? The economy went south, MdM posting was slacking, and the world turns gospel and hymn. I guess we have our Simon & Garfunkel moment. Animal Collective - My Girls Merriweather Post Pavilion ( Domino ) If you want to know why Animal collective is popular, then look no further than early american hymn. This is why so many people like them despite the strange blurry recording, while to others the sound simply doesn't compute. The danceable rhythm section is just added side attraction. If [...]

With sophomore album Luck, Wiretree has fused inventive indie-pop instrumentals with soulful, retro-rock vocals. "Satellite Song" is a composite of electro-'80s pop, Jeff Buckley folk and the poetic spirit of Simon & Garfunkel. The Austin, Texas, band's draw of contrasting influences has veered far away from the clutter of disjointed sounds that could so easily have [...]

On "Heart of Hearts" vocalist Kevin Peroni tells us that we "know how it's gonna go." Each track holds true to this promise, synthesizing decades of pop music into a predictable bricolage. Beautiful, catchy, and well executed but ultimately an appropriate pairing to the empty pop clichés Peroni offers lyrically. Reminds us of : long walks on the beach | the pedagogy of Mary Poppins | fortune cookies Wiretree : ( Official / Myspace ) [...]

* Wiretree-Back In Town

Wiretree is an Austin, Texas based 4-piece that writes upbeat, melodic pop songs that succeed equally as a result of their crisp simplicity as well as for their thoughtfully prepared arrangements. Obvious comparisons include Wilco, George Harrison, and Field Music. They released their sophomore effort, Luck , earlier this week. Check em out, I think you'll like what you hear: MP3: Wiretree - Back In Town ~~ Cold Cave is a Philly/New York trio that create darkwave synth pop that balances the sounds of [...]
