Finally! The very first Daily Graboid of 2008! The releases this week are a bit slim, but this month as a whole is set to start the year off with a flurry of great albums. I can definitely recommend picking up the Juno soundtrack, as it contains a lot of decent acoustic tracks from the likes of Kimya Dawson , Belle & Sebastian and Cat Power . I'm still not sure if I love the actual movie, but the soundtrack works well enough on it's own. [...]
It's time to start spending those holiday gift cards at your local record store or favorite online digital retailer. The new releases are starting to spill in, though a bit slowly right now. Largehearted Boy 's list of new releases is still a bit thin, though beefier than it's been since the holidays. Looking for the new Lily Allen? That's what some critics and fans have been saying about Kate Nash , the latest brash, young, female, internet buzzed about, heavily accented British [...]

Well a new year means new music and I think 2008 is going to have a lot to offer. When January 1 brings the new Radiohead to the table one can only imagine what the remainder of the year has in store for us. If you’re not quite ready to give up on 2007 it’s okay because this week’s new release list is a bit slim. However, there are a few out there worth picking up, especially the Juno Soundtrack . Also, if you haven’t watched Juno yet you are doing yourself a great injustice. [...]
Willie Wisely has been making great power pop music since the late 1980's. Based in Minneapolis where he played music at night and worked at the legendary First Avenue club during the day he debuted in 1992 and has since become one of music's preeminent power popsters. While Wisely can power the pop he can also write mid-tempo classics in the tradition of Sir Paul McCartney. Wisely's new album,
Wisely's been around for a while, but this album, his fourth, is the first one where he's felt like it's what he's really wanted to do. That's why it's self-titled. It's an album of evocative pop, as he calls it, drawing on influences like Elliott Smith, the earlier (better) Badly Drawn Boy, and the first two solo records of McCartney's. Wisely is also friends with Jenna Fischer AKA Pam Beesly from The Office, whose film Lollilove he scored. She returned the favor by appearing in the video for "Through Any Window." [...]

Ok, I may as well bookend a hat-trick of hushed wonders with (actor, soundtrack composer) Willie Wisely’s ‘Through Any Window’. This one comes from his most recent album ‘Parador’ and displays intricate chords manoeuvres as well as an eye for close harmonies. Initially the tune presents a whirlwind of lo-fi pleasantries, which slowly erode as the song proceeds. Not that the experience ever

Ok, it's that time again. Lots of bands! Odds and ends! 4 or 5 Magicians - I’m not a huge fan of the myspace (hence the sparse nature of the Housewives account) but I’ve been spending a decent amount of time over there listening to the songs 4 or 5 Magicians are streaming. The Brighton group is noisy, energetic, fun and crazy catchy. They’ve got an 4 track single titled Forever On The Edge coming out on Alcopop! Records. The title track is awesome, definitely check it out . [...]
Wisely began his musical journey smitten with Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles, all of whom are so distinctive in their sound that Wisely began a career long quest to sound like no one else. Eventually self-releasing numerous cassettes (now savored by collectors) to an eager fan base in Minneapolis, Wisely took to the road touring the Midwest in the tradition of his fellow hometown heroes The Replacements, Husker Du, and The Jayhawks. With his band, the Willie Wisely Trio, he played 150 dates a year and released his first nationally distributed CD on Chicago's Pravda Records. [...]
Wisely 's new self-titled release has a track called "Cracked World View." That's bad because it immediately reminded us of Hootie and the Blowfish. Wisely's video for the first single on said album, "Through Any Window," features The Office 's Jenna Fischer. This more than makes up for any Blowfish-related trangressions. Download the mp3 below and check the clip after the jump. Download: Wisely - "Through Any Window" [...]
Jenna Fischer known more to people as Pam from the US version of the Office starred in a Wisely 's Through Any Window . His album is being released on January 8, 2008. Wisely is a singer/song writer who plays acoustic and has a nice soft voice. I'm not exactly digging his stuff but it's not bad. It's the music video that I took keen interest in. Being a fan of "The Office" (I watched all previous season in a matter of a few days) it's a shame that re-runs will air due to the strike [...]
Waxploitation is releasing a benefit album, Causes 1 , that will aid relief efforts in Darfur. All proceeds from the album will go to three worthy causes: Doctors Without Borders , Human Rights Watch and Oxfam America . The album's tracklist: Animal Collective - Safer (Exclusive Live Version) The Black Keys - Stay All Night (Exclusive Chulahoma Session) Bloc Party - Rhododendrons Bright Eyes - Coat Check Dream Song (Exclusive Live Version) Cornelius - Wataridori 2 [...]
OK. This is the type of CD I would not ever actually pick up and listen to the whole way through ... honestly. The name - Wisely - would make me think of bands like the Fray , and the radio rock friendly anthem that booms into your speakers to open the album is not really my cup o' tea. It's more the type of CD I'd recommend to my friend Lindsay - and did. Then why did I give it a listen? Well, let me tell you. Willie Wisely (real [...]
