"Maybe it's time. Maybe it's payday. Time for a payday. Turn this show into that Jimmy Parton show." -- Tom, considering monetizing his real radio empire "Don't do this to me, ABBA box. Just go! Go! Come back. No, go! Just go. I cannot look at you." Tom, struggling to give his blue buddy the (temporary) boot "More pizza, slave!" -- Problem children, demanding additional substenance at a birthday bash "A lot of marble. A lot of marble went [...]
Some days I just want to rock out. Witch includes J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and his longtime friend Dave Sweetapple, along with Kyle Thomas and Asa Irons of New England avant-folk outfit Feathers. Some nice hard rock here, 70sish...
by crustcake gerf (NYC) Holy shit, Iron Maiden and Van Halen this week. I'm going to miss both shows, so I'm looking forward to reports from the field. Monday, 90s experimentalists Today is the Day will be hitting Knitting Factory with Mouth of the Architect , Complete Failure , and Psyopus . I haven't followed Psyopus since 2004's Ideas of Reference , and I have a short attention span for that spazzed out shit, but you really need to hear this [...]

1000 mph (mp3) opens with a guitar siren, a fair warning of the aural assault that lies in wait. Demon-possessed fingers riff, solo, shred, and improvise with apocalyptic abandon in the relentless ax attack. If you listen real close, you might even hear lyrics. Witch will be playing several SXSW shows in Austin this week. Own Witch's sophomore album, Paralyzed . You won't hear another metal album like it this year.

I still love good metal. I was obsessed with it when I was 13, and now 20 years later I'm a little more well-rounded...and a little more selective, since there is a absolute shit-ton of horrible metal bands out there now. WITCH is definitely among the better. As some of you may know, J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) plays drums in this outfit and their love of all things "Sabbath" permeates their sound, but things are little faster this time around. On this second full-length "Paralyzed", the doomy-sludge has a little fire under it this time making it a little less [...]

Witch , a classic sounding heavy metal project (think black mountain only with a little less psychedelia) involving J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr., Dave Sweetapple, and Asa Irons and Kyle Thomas, members of the Vermont-based folk outfit Feathers. I've had a chance to preview the entire album and all I can say is, much like the album cover, it will melt your face. Preorder it here and get a free dvd (while supplies last) Witch - "Eye" (MP3)

sup playas? for those of you lucky tards heading to sxsw this year you may want to check out this site do512 . the sites got a shitload of helpful sxsw info including the ability to input in the shows you want to see and then send the schedule to your cell. i had all good intentions of going this year, but alas with the wee child due shortly, its just not economically feasible. damn kids!!! i am going to go out on a limb and proclaim urge overkill's "sister havana" one of, if not the greatest [...]

The Vermont collaboration continues, with the boys from Feathers again joining J.Mascis for a lesson in the history of Metal. This time the band drop down into 4th and kick the bike in gear, making speed almost as much as a factor as heaviness. Still thick with the vapor trail of Sabbath, Paralyzed is just a further evolution down the Metal chain; springing forward out of the asphalt jungles of 1978 and straight on into the desperate early 80's. But don't fret and don't fear, the boys (well men, I guess J. is pushing his mid 40's, eh) [...]
Good stuff this week. J. Mascis is hitting the skins tonight with his doom metal project Witch at Luna Lounge. Dr. Dog and Delta Spirit play tonight in Hoboken and tomorrow at Bowery Ballroom, but tomorrow's show is already sold out so we'll have to take our pick tonight. What'll it be? Brooklyn or Jersey? With Friday open, you might check out Josh Ritter at Webster Hall. That dude is a

Why so serious ? (at press time, only Albuquerque remains up for grabs) Happy Halloween, here's a quintet (and maybe a hidden bonus track, since the J-man's scavenger hunt has been scooped up by bigger dorks than you or I) of seasonal traxx to darken yr doorway. MP3: " Death of a Clown " by the Kinks Mp3: " Reflections of the Marionette " by Two Gallants Mp3: " Cat Claw " by the Kills Mp3: " Changing " by Witch Mp3: " The [...]

This was far from easy and this list at one point or another had the likes of Tool, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Thom Yorke, Hot Chip, and Arctic Monkeys. I whittled it down from the list that I started on my flight out to California last week and then I sat on it. Came back to it. Changed it. And this morning I finalized it. Complete with B-sides. [10] MP3: Wilderness - "Monumental" | "Emergency" We got turned on by 1000yregg over at Kushi Tan who [...]
