Shot on a cliff in Seaford, Sussex the black and white video features crazy screwed up dancing, backwards waves and the apparent zombie-lemming like procession to suicide as repeated lyrics ring out of watching people "dance themselves to death." It's been slow start for goth outfit Esben and the Witch since being named to this years BBC sound list of one's to watch. There debut album "Violet Cries" has received mixed reviews and the Lp took a few listens for us to appreciate the twelve track effort. Synchronized dancers and Cliffs provide one creepy visual for there latest single "Chorea." Via [ P4K ]
The best Esben and the Witch songs work best as soundtrack cuts, where the bursts of emotion can be placed alongside video footage that gives it some context. This clip for "Chorea" makes me enjoy the song at least 40% more: We watch women dance convulsively before its implied that they maybe jump off a clip. Or at least stop dancing on a cliff. Either of which is an interesting video hook. Esben and the Witch's Violet Cries is out now via Matador. [ P4K ]
