
SF Popfest kicked off last Wednesday with a diverse night of winning acts. After Wolf Feet started the evening with a set of sunglasses-equipped party rock (including a "Blister in the Sun" cover), White Arrows delivered a performance that marked the LA group as one to watch. The six piece's more tropical moments called to mind the layered melodies of The Ruby Suns, while its more straightforward synth-assisted psych pop was equally welcome. This coming Memorial Day weekend (May 25th - 29th) marks another wonderful line-up with the always original San Francisco Popfest . The great thing about SF Popfest is that every show boasts an impressive and nearly unfamiliar mess of bands from all over the world. The true indie rock fest will be featuring bands from the UK's C-86 movement, K Records of the Pacific Northwest, SF/DC indie-brainchild Slumberland Records. WOLF FEET = Dead Hand It seems that Mikey Sanders and Austin Woods creative capacity knows no bounds. Their new project Wolf Feet just popped up on my radar yesterday, and they've got a three song EP full of psyche-popish freakfolk jams that if I didn't know any better is an exercise for both Austin and Mikey in "less electronic" music. Glad to see they aren't constrained by really anything when it comes to making more music. [...]
