![[mp3] Wolf People - "October Fires"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2121233_lg.jpg)
"October Fires" comes from the forthcoming debut from Wolf People , the first U.K. band to sign with Jagjaguwar . That debut, called Tidings and due February 22, is actually a collection of singles recorded between 2005-2007 for Battered Ornaments . The track finds the quartet sporting a rather large debt to their forebears of the British Invasion - it's a bluesy, psyche-rock romp that sounds like a lost track from the mid-60's. Wolf People - "October Fires" Intriguing stuff, from the forthcoming Tidings , a collection of early recordings by London's Wolf People , Jagjaguwar 's new (and first ) UK signing. The tunes seem to be a sort of awesome pastiche of old-school heavy '70s vibes (think Faust et. al.), and I'm stoked to hear more from Tidings (it's out 2/23)- although I'd wager that their proper debut LP, slated for release later in 2010, is gonna be the real slayer.

Boomkat Heavy blues rockin' psychedelia from London 5-piece Wolf People. Another Battered Ornaments and Finders Keepers release, this 73 is primed to make your retro-rock receivers go into overload with a well studied and point perfect execution of blues psychedelia in thrall to a huge sackload of influences. Weighty Zappa like guitar chops are balanced against flutes taken from Jethro Tull's arse pocket on 'Tiny Circles' while 'Mercy II' involves Peter Sharp's Hammond Organ for another past blast of scuzzy pub fonk par excellence. Most people know Pete Fowler's work best from Super Furry Animals ' album art, and he's certainly done well by them, but Mr. Fowler has long since had his own interests in music and psychedelia, and also maintains his own toy line, Monsterism . A Psychedelic Guide to Monsterism Island is the second soundtrack to Pete Fowler's imaginary place and where the first one featured some traditional psych romps, this one is more electronic and contemporary (though Wolf People keep us safely in a guitar-and-flute-based topos ). Maybe not essential stuff, but always [...]

Apparently started as a project to test the recording limitations of a salvaged 1960's Grundig tape machine; Wolf People is the creative output of Jack Sharp and a few others that have been able to make his trip. The band's sound is a true homage to their 60's muse. They sound like a great rummage sale nugget dropped out of nowhere. Dark tones and restrained bravado seethe with a kind of garage band angst that's mellowed with the ideals of true studio experimentation. It's smokey psychedelia with a strong love for the blues. They've just released a 7" on UK [...]
