I enjoy this brooding cover of Womack & Womack's 1988 R & B single "Teardrops," which comes to your screen courtesy of the buzzy British outfit The xx, very much; the xx's debut album, which came out last week, just jumped to the top of my too-long "2009 releases to be listened to" playlist as a result. (Plus, I had at least two elementary-school pals who had the synth pictured in the above clip, I'm pretty sure; I myself owned (and wore out) a Casio back in the day.) The original after the jump. Download: Teardrops – Womack & Womack (1988) (Right Click, Open in new window) (Alt Link) * This song was a massive hit for Cecil Womack of The Valentinos (aka The Womack Brothers) and his wife Linda Cooke (daughter of Same Cooke ). Architecture In Helsinki have recently played a cover of this song live on their Australian tour supporting The Presets to rave responses. [...]

A week or two ago I was offered two extremely cheap ' The Presets ' concert tickets and even though I had work the next day, they were that cheap that I couldn't refuse. The highlight of the night and one of the best things I've ever seen and heard was when supporting act Architecture In Helsinki covered the Womack & Womack [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive On track number six off of Jack Peñate 's sophomore album, the Brit admits that there are two things to take note of: a really big sniff that he forgot to take out of the recording, and Adele . While visiting New York to promote 'Everything Is New,' due August 18, Peñate stopped by the Spinner office to play some of the record for the staff. On the forementioned song, 'Every Glance,' Peñate sings all about a woman's Medusa-like gaze, with Adele providing [...]

This is Theda Bara. Theda is short for her real name Theodosia and Bara for het grandfather's name Baranger. There was this myth though in the film industry at the time that she had been living in the Sahara in Egypt and that her name was an anagram of Arab Death (hence the title of this post). I read about her in my film course last semester. I think she's very fierce in this picture. I really want to have it printed on a t-shirt. Theda Bara shook everybody [...]

the xx - teardrops (womack and womack cover)

The xx - Crystalised The debut single from The xx provides one of those first listens where every note sounds perfectly in place, as you hear it, even though you're not entirely sure where it's going. That seems to happens far too infrequently with new music but I am genuinely excited by this London quartet, having been drawn on to their MySpace after gleaming tantalisingly little about the band from their interview in Plan B. As you'll gather, it's dark, catchy, simple - no overdubs or loops - and hints at a reverence for '80s pop [...]
David Kitt arrives on stage to a reception just shy of rapturous, though there was some reservation in the air. But maybe not without reason, The Nightsaver is Kitt's sixth album in eight years, a couple of which were shaky to say the least. So maybe folks are treating the new material with trepidation. Opening with 'A Real Fire', Kitt's vocal is CD-perfect. He's no Guy Garvey but what he lacks in range and prowess he can more than make up for with tone and, well, sentiment. "Redefining what was lost", David Kitt [...]
I have milked this track for all it's worth on this blog, but you're getting one more remix. Cassie - Me & U ( Womack & Womack Remix)

A friend asked if I was going to do a "Best of '08" list and I told him that I don't usually do these things. For one thing, I tend to post a lot of music that is either pop, mainstream or more than a year old. So rather than calling it a best of '08, I'm calling this the accurately and glamourously named "Rodeo Round-up of Favorite Songs Posted This Year Period." (What's that? Why the "period"? Ummm, it's called an 'Element of Style.' Duh , Vance. Look it up. ) I'd [...]

I just love this group. " Love Wars " in particular. This is a nice edit by Mark E. from that album Womack & Womack - Baby I'm Scared Of You (Mark E Edit)
Lately I've been posting videos that I like....here's one that I'm not so crazy about. Its from the 80s by Womack & Womack , for their biggest hit Teardrops. There's zero to comment on here besides the fact that everyone in it seemed to love their biggole round tortoise-shell sunglasses. Absolutely nothing happens throughout the entirety of the video, and I suspect Linda Cooke Womack might be sleepwalking through the whole thing. That's why she wore the sunglasses. She's asleep behind them. The other two back-up singers look pissed that she's not doing her share of singing. [...]
Re-edit king Mark E pulls together a hypnotic downtempo mix on this week's RA podcast. Hypnotic is a word used often when describing dance music, but there's really no other way to describe what Mark E sounds like. It's pretty much his calling card, in fact. Whether it be in his celebrated re-edits of tracks like [...]

In 1983 - Womack & Womack - the husband/wife singing & songwriting team of Cecil and Linda Womack launched their recording careers with an underrated gem of an R&B album called Love Wars . Cecil Womack (along with his brother including Bobby) was a member of The Valentinos , who were signed by Sam Cooke to his SAR label. At Cooke's calling, The Womack Brothers moved to LA from Cleveland and the rest as they say is history. One of their early singles was [...]

Womack & Womack: Conscious Of My Conscience From their album Conscience . A massive debt of gratitude is owed to Kava Chim for this one: A brilliant song, artfully pitched down, with just the right amount of vinyl ambience, all coalescing to form that rara avis : the perfect mp3. I'd like to discover my deepest destiny undercover.
