photo by Hanna-Katrina In some typical city, amid an unremarkable neighbourhood, within a featureless flat, inside a plaid room, under a watery yellow light, a svelte figure dances intently: twirling, twisting, writhing, exulting, existing. She's not scared, not anymore. She dances to the elegant , noirish pop music of London fourpiece Woman's Hour . She's free. Woman's Hour - Jenni ( mp3 )

This Kendal bred, London based four-piece produce transfixing soundscapes that combine haunting vocals with drawn out guitars and scratchy synths. Their music is prevalent with influences taken from the last decade of indie and yet manages to avoid falling into the imitation trap. 'Human' is a minimalist and progressive track, stripped back to allow for the teasing vocals of lead singer Fiona Burgess to take the lead. Easily the stand out track of their double release (the other track 'Jenni' is to be released with 'Human' on the 5th December), 'Human' is a fine example of Woman's Hour's [...]

Facebook I had a blog about Woman's Hour ready for posting last week, I somehow managed to delete it before it was posted, clever hey, so consider this my second attempt. I've the memory of a sieve so I can't remember what it said, pretty much my normal thing, endless gushing praise and numerous adjectives to describe the London four pieces debut single. "Human" is the perfect introduction to the band, sparse soundscapes that utilise a similar sense of space and craftsmanship that took The xx to the top of the stratosphere [...]

Yoofs - 12 My friend Mike, from Bournemouth blog This Scene Isn't Dead (who put on Bos Angeles ' first show in the Spring), also has a lo-fi project, by name of Yoofs . They've been turning out some glistening 60s numbers these past few months, enough to have earnt them shows with Real Estate and Spectrals last week. All from the comfort of Bournemouth's famous blackwater caravan, that's some pretty nice work. This latest track, '12', which they wrote and recorded over the weekend, has really won me over. [...]

Myself and Nathan Horror Show Tunes have decided that Kingston-upon-Thames could do with some more gigs, and we've taken the responsibility on ourselves - under the name Zeitgiest ( feel free to go 'like' us on Facebook to be kept up to date with future shows). Our first show will take place in Kingston , at The Cricketer's pub, with Woman's Hour and Yoofs on Wednesday November 16 . Of Woman's Hour, Nathan said: "the bordering-on-tropical [...]

Want some new music from Woman's Hour? Well, who doesn't? These two tracks, Jenni and Human , make up the band's double A-side single, which is released through Dirty Bingo on December 5. Listen to them both below.

I don't know what it is about the latest track from London's "Woman's Hour", yet it's bordering-on-tropical melody and subtly arresting vocals can only inspire one thing, total adoration. In fact, anything that can help address the lows that I've felt recently is welcomed with open arms, "Jenni" no exception, that despite a lyrical tale of disappointment ("So here we are again, it's the same old story"), exudes this strong sense of positivity only the coldest of souls could deny. Check it. STREAM/DOWNLOAD : Woman's Hour - "Jenni" [ [...]

By Louise Coles Conceived in the same terrain as Wild Beasts and British Sea Power, new on the scene Kendal bred Woman's Hour are an exciting new London based Art-Pop collective, quivering with electronic beats married to clean and uncomplicated guitar and bass lines. Similarly to their contemporaries, their soft then strong vocals coupled with their amassing melody teeters into calypso territory, flirting with a myriad of other genres, while never losing the core sound of the band. Here, Will Burgess, bassist and vocals, speaks exclusively to Muso's Guide about [...]
