Woodpigeon at the Fleece The last time KV caught Woodpigeon , after the cancellation of last year's Junip support slot, was at the End of the Road festival way back in 2010, where he was in full band mode, backed up by Eagleowl. Tonight, Woodpigeon the man (born Mark Andrew Hamilton), adorned in a chunky sweater - perhaps a souvenir of a recent spell in Iceland - is playing alone. Woodpigeon, a folk-indie collective with Mark Andrew Hamilton at its core, has been churning out music like a factory. Their 2013 release, Thumbtacks + Glue, comes at the tail end of a slew of EPs and collection of full-length albums, with multiple releases per year, and it kind of shows. A minute into Thumbtacks + Glue ’s opening track “The Saddest Music in the World”, Woodpigeon ringleader Mark Andrew Hamilton croons, “Oh you, just stop listening.” It’s a brash exclamation to put on the table for the listener, and it juxtaposes sharply with the song's Fleet Foxes-influenced pastoral instrumentation. Even appreciating the irony, there’s a problem when such a self-deprecating statement isn't backed up by quality tunes.
