Andrya of Talk Normal sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: The Tides of Manaunaun by Henry Cowell . He's a piano man; early 20th century. It's like an earthquake with the most rewarding melodies on top. Deep stuff. Streamable: The Tides of Manaunaun (youtube) q: What is your [...]
The story of how I "discovered" this two piece from NYC was through a friend who, in every sense of the word, has devoted his life to music. So when I asked him what he was listening to blaring in the background his response was an intense mixture of pure exhilaration and panic. He told me he had a single track, but could not find anything else by this mystery band ... although there was a bartender who apparently held to coveted copy of the album. I boldly ventured into Swig (the bar) and snatched up what could [...]

I've often joked that it would be totally clutch to eat a bunch of shrooms and check out Sesame Street Live or have a Nick Jr. viewing party. This has not actually taken place of course, since the idea is probably more interesting than the result. So to that end, much respect for WOOM taking such an approach in this Matthew Thurber directed video for "Quetzalcoatl's Ship." You can find that jam from Muu's Way , an album we unintentionally slept on at the end of 2010. Correcting that now... as should you, via the good hombres [...]

Woom From: Los Angeles , California , United States Woom is Eben Portnoy and Sara Magenheimer a duo who used to be called Fertile Crescent and were both members of Flying . They play lo-fi pop that's cuter than a kitten in a santa hat and is a perfect reminder of a better world, a world far removed from [...]

The Oakland pair simply known as WOOM is so enchanting in their pop quirky-ness I feel like hugging them when I listen to Muu's Way . Their songs remind me of a friend of mine who's obssessed with Iceland and sweaters. I don't know why. All it is is Sara on synthesized sounds and main vocals and Eben on guitars. Sounds like a simple set-up but their tracks can range from the ridiculously minimal folk pop to extensively layered sound scapes that fill up your room, your head and the universe. [Video: WOOM - The [...]

Since the release of WOOM 's debut album Muu's Way back in July, there have been a bunch of remixes that include the works of Greg Saunier of Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, BJ Warshaw (Parts and Labor, Shooting Spires), Lucky Dragons, Talk Normal, Japanther, and Butchy Fuego (Pit er Pat, The Boredoms). BaDaBing Records recently announced that they are going to release this "slew of remixes" as an EP entitled Muu's Way Remixed . Check out two of the tracks below and definitely watch this new video for their original release of The Hunt . [...]

MP3: Woom - Judith (Lucky Dragons Remix) First sightings of LA duo Lucky Dragons in a while and the first we've heard from WOOM who seem to feel for a similarly effervescent vibe in pop. Lifted from this Muu's Way remix comp the polyrhythms pile up here in particularly tranced-out style (w/ whistle) for something kinda High Placesy that I'm digging on my first zoned out/jetlagged Spring day back in Christchurch, NZ woaahhh. myspace / soundcloud / buy

Muu's Way Remixed will be available for free via eMusic tomorrow. Visit WOOM on MySpace. MP3: WOOM - Quetzalcoatl's Ship (Xiu Xiu Mix)

The Muu's Way Remixed EP will be available for download next Tuesday via eMusic . We are super excited to have the first track from said EP to hit the internets. WOOM - Quetzalcoatl's Ship I recently moved home again. I've lived in more than ten places now, which is odd. I'm only now getting over that sense of new-place, being unsure about filling the space there, like trying to be careful with the words you put on a page. It's by the sea, so the air is different - it'll rust you if you don't keep moving. So far I haven't stopped. Anyway, this is a great seaside song. It's got the same push to keep moving carrying it along like a tide, sailing it [...]
