My introduction to Woozy Viper, a duo from Brooklyn, was the virulent and easily repeatable "You Can't Find Me", the opening track on their second album "Rock & Roll". It's a good intro to an album that follows in the footsteps of the virulent and easily-repeatable hooks, dislocated Lo-Fi jangle that's comparable to that of Harlem or Jaill , but at the same time putting their own unflappable spin on skeeze-rock. You will more than likely finish the album with a foot sore from tapping and a million little pieces of broken-glass-harmonies embedded deep within [...]

I've been jamming to this sweet new track from NYC group Woozy Viper . The band is self-releasing their latest batch of hits, titled Rock n' Roll , which you can still grab for free from their web site, but we encourage the usual donation. They've got this Cramps feel, but with a little bit less of a horror approach, exchanging it for a nice little modern spin, making it catchy enough for everyone to enjoy. We dig it, and we hope you do [...]

You might catch me in the park getting a little stoned / You might see me looking lonesome but I got somewhere to go / You might hear me in the subways playing my guitar / You might see me walking uptown, but it won't be for long / Cause you can look all around, but you can't find me. New York brothers Luke and Mitch Meseke's Woozy Viper is a dark and spirited ride of early 1970s-inspired gritty guitar rock and deep foot-stomping grooves. You can grab their entire second album, Rock and Roll [...]

This New York rock 'n' roll duo has just released their second album. Just head to the band's website and download all 10 tracks for nothing more than a mere click-but do keep in mind you are free to donate to the band if you're enjoying their stuff. September has little value to me beyond the start of football. The weather manages to retain the worst aspects of summer (NYC is 95°F today) as our lifestyles adjust to more focused, goal-driven tasks. Nothing wrong with responsibility, but I'd much prefer to be doing work when it is bitter cold outside. Showing up to [...]
by Lauren Keiser We all know that guy. The one who wakes up still drunk, refuses to spend more than ten dollars for a t-shirt, and reads the works of Hunter S. Thompson like a to-do list. Luke and Mitch Meseke both are probably "that guy" and, fortunately for us, they form the all-elusive Woozy [...]

As much as I enjoy geeking out by building best-of album lists, song lists are infinity more interesting. A song is a high-wire act: one slip, one faulty step and you've got a mess on your hands. Albums, almost by their very nature are more forgiving: great albums still have awful, awful songs. So a list of the best songs of a period tend to be more inclusive of different types of talent. Quite a few of these bands here don't have enough of it to sustain an album (yet?), but they have enough to absolutely crush one. So, culled [...]

From the Chaff (in reference to this idiom ) is a semi-regular series where we post things that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks. Whether it's singles, EPs or just MP3s that we like, it's a place for us to collect the things we've heard lately but haven't had a chance to write about yet. MP3 Woozy Viper - Look Out! Liars get Snakes For the Divine. This week on the show, we take a listen to the dark, weird, bizarre dimension Liars visit on their latest album, Sisterworld. The band's music has gotten much eerier since their self-titled release in '07, and the proof is in the old, moldy tapioca pudding. This album will follow you down a cold, dark alleyway with a sharp object of some sort, so watch your

You know, I'm not exactly naive when it comes to the internet. I've done perfectly innocent Google image searches at work and then hurriedly had to cover up or stove in my monitor as all manner of filth made its appearance, irrespective of the tame nature of the search terms. So I was up quite late recording this podcast and because only pervs and loonies seem to be up late* using the internet I reckoned that this should be called the Pervcast. Particularly as I recorded most of it with a glass of wine in one hand and [...]
mp3: Woozy Viper "It's All Over"Lou Reed comes in many different flavors. There's the proto-twee bedsitter who wrote "Sunday Morning" and "Pale Blue Eyes." Then, there's garage rock god who tore it all down with "Sister Ray." There's the baroque poet-cum-lounge-singer who recorded Berlin. Of course, there's the coked-out chronicler of glam sleaze in Street Hassle and Transformer. And, then
Woozy Viper is a Brooklyn/Queens duo with a menacing garage rock sound. And, of course, they're kinda lo-fi, too. Just imagine if you could throw The King Khan & BBQ Show into a melting pot with The Velvet Underground. Woozy is calm, laid back, somewhat druggy; but they've got their upbeat, eccentricities too.Woozy's debut LP is out now, and it's free. Yep, free. Download a copy over here, and

This Brooklyn band reminisces on the beach days of the 60's and 70's on their self-titled debut. This album which they are giving away for free is comprised of a few catchy tunes but at the same time quite a few boring and repetitious. The semi-lo-fi sound is unique because it isn't the almost grunge-like scratchiness of Wavvves but it is a sound all their own. It feels like it was thrown together a little quickly just to get some material out there and when it comes to free music, you can't always expect the best. But I'd say it [...]
