Been away from the blogging gig for a bit, being kept super busy brining my son into the world. What better way to return than with a bit of excellent new summer fare from a long time OTR favourite Work Drugs . This track "West Coast Slide" is the first single from their upcoming new album Mavericks , out next month. The track and it's accompanying video are perfectly timed for setting the stage for summer fun!
There's a little different format for this month's playlist. Instead of making this a who's who of my favorite tracks posted on Sirens this month, I went on a bit of a different path. This month's playlist is MP3 only, which means you can download it at your leisure, as some have requested. No more being tied to the website to listen. It also means that unfortunately there are a ton of great songs submitted to me that aren't included. What is included is a few of the great tracks posted here that did have free MP32s, as [...]

Matt Marchinowski of Big School Records is moving out of Philadelphia. To celebrate his time here, Marchinowski has pieced together a snapshot of the local music scene with a 27-track mixtape called Philamixington II , available as a free download via his Tumblr . The second installment in the local music mixtape series, this collection samples various genres, circles and side projects with tracks from radio favorites like Cheers Elephant (pictured), basement staples Roof Doctor and The Hundred Acre Woods and new-projects-from-old-buddies like Avery Rosewater . From Marchinowski [...]
Face Off features two top ten tracks from the Hype Machine charts – both unknown and unheard by myself. Did I mention these tracks are selected specifically because they encompass genres that I am ignorant of, or generally avoid? Well, there’s that too. Face Off is meant to be a fun interlude in the seriousness of music blogging…if blogging can be called serious, which it cannot. I tackle songs I would never give a second thought, or delve into genres where I’d be better off sticking my own foot in my mouth than try [...]

It's been a long while since we've posted about Work Drugs , but as the summer sun creeps back into our lives so to does this Philadelphia duo. Adding to their growing library of infectious, summery tunes is "West Coast Slide," a dancey number perfectly fit for partying it up in the sunshine. The artwork even has a yacht on it, so why not party it up on a yacht? The duo, made up of Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana, are currently working on their next full length release. The album should be out later this summer, [...]
Work Drugs shared a free download last week of their latest single "West Coast Slide" from the band's upcoming album, which now has a title, Maverick . (Is this a nod to 80's classic Top Gun ?) Well, they also just posted a new music video for the track this morning that makes us wanna leave our lives in Philly behind for the endless summer. Spring Break foreva, y'all!

In case you missed it , last week Work Drugs released a new single, "West Coast Slide," that you can download for free below. It's another infectious power yacht rock anthem with a soaring guitar line ripped from the pages of the Christopher Cross song book.

Work Drugs bring a magnetism and energy that is impossible to ignore, it's infectious and perfect for summer. Hopefully summer is coming soon so we can all hop on a yacht and listen to their new dancey "West Coast Slide." After all, according to their website yachting is one of the things they specifically had [...]

Philadelphia based band Work Drugs is preparing to release their debut album Delta , but until then offered up a new Summer indie/pop jam called "West Coast Slide." Over the last few months I've been getting more emails about these guys and that I need to give them a listen, needless to say, I'm glad I did. This latest cut has a friendly and upbeat groove to it, great for the Summer days at the beach or pool. I like how the email put it: "Work Drugs make music specifically for boating, sexting, dancing, yachting, and living." [...]

I live for any holiday that gives me the opportunity to cook foods that I don't normally try. This year that holiday was Passover. Passover is a Jewish holiday that celebrates their liberation from ancient Egypt and the rule of the Pharaoh (you know the one where Moses parts the Red Sea). Typically the holiday is celebrated by eating unleavened bread. The story behind this is that when the Pharaoh freed the Israelites they left in such a hurry that they could not wait for their bread dough to rise. Thus Matzo is eaten during passover and it is a [...]

Work Drugs premiered a new track earlier today via All Things Go called "West Coast Slide," which you can download for free below. The song will appear on the band's upcoming yet-to-be-named LP scheduled for release this summer on Bobby Cahn Records. They'll be performing tomorrow night at Union Transfer opening for Future Rock and Luke The Knife (featuring Luke Miller and Mike Greenfield from Lotus ).
It's almost like the guys and gals in Work Drugs have their listeners in a single-of-the-month club that never stops. Which is totally fine with us. Today, they premiered a new jam with the folks at All Things Go Music and it's an unexpected and eviscerating fusion of black metal, grime and IDM / industrial ... Continue reading

We’re thoroughly excited to premiere “West Coast Slide,” an instant smooth pop classic from Philadelphia dream rockers Work Drugs . On this track, Work Drugs sharpen up their hazy musical aesthetic – designed “specifically for boating, sexting, dancing, yachting, and living” – to produce what might be their catchiest work yet. Blissful Balearic guitar runs, fat synth pads and a languid backbeat coast behind Thomas Crystal’s irresistible sing-along vocals. A highlight here is the lovably exuberant arena rock guitar solo that erupts around the midpoint of the song, as if it'd been bottled up since 1982 just waiting to [...]

Amid the tragedies of the week, we looked to the pop culture tabloids for some lighthearted escapism and hope in avoidance of the 24-hour fear factory scare machines from the news media feed cycles. We heard will.i.am knocked off Mat Zo & Arty's Anjunabeats cut "Rebound" with "Let's Go", which of course had to rope in conflict magnet Chris Brown. And while King Krule's Archie Marshall may have canceled all shows for this month of April, he took the time to d...
