It has been a rocky few years for World/Inferno Friendship Society . After the release of 2007's Addicted to Bad Ideas almost all of the band's long running contributors left. 2011's The Anarchy and the Ecstasy saw the band reform with new members, most of whom left shortly thereafter. It seemed that perhaps WI/FS would end with a whimper; this would have been a shame, because they're utterly unique. By combining soul music with classic punk and old world folk, the band have forged a daring mix of danger [...]

Last night, I headed to Philly's own Union Transfer to see cabaret punks The World Inferno Friendship Society. I missed most of the opening bands, but got there in time to party World Inferno style (slamdancing/waltzing/general rowdiness). The venue itself was probably at half capacity or so, which made for plenty of dancing room, a nice welcome for once at an Inferno show. Unlike other punk shows, when you see World Inferno, it's always just a giant party. The band took the stage, and is tradition, immediately broke into their call to arms "Tattoos Fade". We immediately responded [...]

Maybe SXSW is to blame, but this week seems a little light on the new albums. Sure, okay, the new David Bowie album is out this week (pictured), and who wants to compete with Bowie? No one! Regardless, it seems like a few are trying. Amos Lee has a DVD out, for instance. The World/Inferno Friendship Society have a comic book. Tape Deck Mountain have an EP. What's going to gain traction this week with that huge music festival going down in Austin? It's hard to tell, but we certainly [...]
To mark the anniversary of Clash guitarist Joe Strummer's passing, the North Star Bar will be hosting In Memory of Joe Strummer: A Benefit for Strummerville. The show benefits the Strummervile charity that financially support struggling musicians who aspire to change the world through music. The charity was established by family and friends of the ... Whatever it is, we think you'll like the cavalcade of stars in our giveaway roundup this week. Thursday, December 6th Bloc Party , Dum Dum Girls @ The Fox To win, be the first or second person to enter. Winner will receive one pair of tickets each. The show [...]

Well it's finally Halloween, although in all honesty I've been celebrating all damn week listening to the Misfits ( seriously... huge Misfits kick lately , don't be too surprised if you see even more posts about them in the upcoming weeks). I dressed up as Bruce Springsteen last night, and if I go out again tonight... fuck it, Bruce again as homage to my original home state which recently got battered by some bitch named Sandy. Anyways, here's a Halloween mix for all you punk rockers, so let's get fucking weird. [...]

Brooklyn's Wild Yaks will release their new album, Million Years , on November 20 via the folks at Ernest Jennings Recording Company. We've got the premiere of the album's charmingly ragged, anthemic title track which you can stream at the bottom of this post. Wild Yaks will be going out on tour to support the album's release, hitting the road with O'Death and World Inferno Friendship Society . While there are not NYC dates at the moment for that tour, Wild Yaks will be playing next week during CMJ: [...]

In just about two months, two of Brooklyn's marginal punk-driven acts will be setting off for a joint series of 24 shows from NY to the West Coast, concluding in Pennsylvania right before Christmas. O'Death , who recently released a new album 'Outside' (Ernest Jenning Records), is an alt-country seven piece, which for a fresh take on bluegrass/folk sounds, sends fusing through its circuits the respective momentums of punk and metal. The World/Inferno Friendship Society , i.e one of those bands whose name it may take a while to remember, work the other way round. Essentially [...]

In just about two months, two of Brooklyn's marginal punk-driven acts will be setting off for a joint series of 24 shows from NY to the West Coast, concluding in Pennsilvanya right before Christmas. O'Death , who recently released a new album 'Outside' (Ernest Jenning Records), is an alt-country band, seven heads in total, which takes a louder approach to bluegrass and folk roots by fusing through its circuits elements of punk and metal. Cartoonist Mitch Clem , of Nothing Nice To Say and My Stupid Life fame, and his water-coloring cohort Nation Of Amanda will be teaming up with New York City anarcho-cabaret-punks The World/Inferno Friendship Society for the second issue of Turnstile Comix . The first issue was released last year and we checked it out for a review here: Turnstile Comix #1 . The comic book will feature over 40 pages illustrating some [...]

The World Inferno Friendship Society has been one of my favorite bands for a little while now, winning me over years ago with their passionate live shows and their incredibly eclectic sound (what has been described as cabaret punk). So when they played a song I've never heard last month , I was confused and asked someone what the hell album was this off of? "Oh, this is off of 3 Ring Brain and A Circus Heart ." What the hell? I looked into it more and found that 3 Ring Brain And A Circus [...]

The World Inferno Friendship Society always have the most passionate shows. On Thursday night, I headed out to West Chester's Note in order to catch the cabaret punk, and due to an emergency, unfortunately missed both Spraynard and Mischief Brew. I came close to missing part of Inferno as well but walked in right as the band began their call to arms "Tattoos Fade". In all honesty, I was a little bit nervous about the crowd being lackluster due to the fact it was in West Chester as opposed to Philly (even Municipal Waste shows at The Note leave [...]

Brooklyn-based orchestral punk rock heroes The World/Inferno Friendship Society are coming to The Camel on Feb. 15 in support of its new album "The Anarchy and The Ecstasy." I am LOVING this album. LOVING IT. This record is just a damn good time full of punk, ska, and plenty of fun.

It's valentine's day, that special day where single people are bitter and wish they were in relationships and people in relationships wish they were single... oh and something about Al Capone killing a bunch of people on a boat or something. Here's a little vday mix for all you punk hearts out there, because I'm your valentine. Why don’t you rise me up? Down by the pumpkin patch I’ve been waiting all year just to get myself born, I’ve been waiting all year just to meet you . A crowded space. The smell of sweat. Smoke and booze. A man with a toaster on his head. A shoe against the side of my face. The World/Inferno Friendship Society. If you have ever attended Hallowmas, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Hallowmas: [...]
Hallowfuckingween. After making my friend listen to Misfits all day (pretty sure that's a law), I headed out to Philly's new Union Transfer for sold out Hallowmas featuring World Inferno Friendship Society, Melt Banana, and Mischief Brew. The majority of people there were dressed up in full blown costume and people were in high spirits, handing out candy, throwing glitter, etc.Mischief

Konstantin Sergeyev Hi, my name is Jack Terricloth, I'm in that World/Inferno Friendship Society organization. We're a mostly music based gang of cats and kittens based in Brooklyn, N.Y. but really living any number of places and at the moment in a couple cargo vans hurtling through Kansas of all places on one of our missions to keep gas stations and bars across the world economically feasible. I've been asked to tell you about my top five Halloween memories and I'm happy to do it. [Ed. note: Click here for info [...]
