In 1965 they were smoking pot with Hendrix, opening for the Byrds, the Doors and Love, but then The Sloths vanished, their recordings unavailable unless you wanted to spend $6,000 on eBay. More than 45 years later, they return! There was a Friday show at the Rockit Room, but this story could only happen at Oakland's incredible Stork Club. The crowd was small but huge in its thirst for discounted PBR tallboys. After two opening acts (keep reading!), The Sloths took the stage. Singer Hank Daniels looked like he could be Iggy's [...]

The new Wounded Lion track "Raincheck Vibrations" is picking up a lot of praise from different media outlets. The song was picked by Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis of Rough Trade Records as a song you must hear in Q Magazine . The song appears on their debut full-length album IVXLCDM . Watch the video for "Raincheck Vibrations" below. Read more »

Over the next couple of nights I'll be revealing my top 5 albums, my top 5 videos and then, on New Years Eve my top 10 tracks of the year. Tonight it's my favourite albums of the year in partnership with the Hype Machine's annual zeitgeist survey. In a year when there have been so many amazing albums picking a top 5 has not been an easy task but, after much deliberation, procrastination and perambulation I finally plumped for... 1. EMA - Past Lives, [...]

Just some recent songs I took a bit of a fancy to. Siskiyou travels to Bonnie Billy country, Haroula Rose does the folky duet thing very well, and High On Stress sure digs the Mats a lot. Widowspeak dreams back to the indie eighties, Wounded Lion plays barbwire pop with a delightful chorus (" LVXLCDM " anyone?), while Centro-matic fondly remembers the Mary Chain. Broaden that musical horizon why don't you, pop kids. Siskiyou - Dear Old Friends Haroula Rose - Free To Be Me [...]
Wounded Lion want you to know that their new video does not enforce a belief in the occult. Hmm...all the splices of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar footage could have fooled me. "Going Into The Unknown" is a track off the LA art rock band's new album IVXLCDM that's currently available. Check it out and let us know what you think. http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

Wounded Lion From: Los Angeles, United States It is really difficult to review IVXLCDM , the new Wounded Lion album, without conjuring up images of David Byrne and his unfeasibly large shouldered suit. Lead singer Brad Eberhard sounds so like the Talking Heads singer you could swear that either they are related, there's been a Freak Friday style vocals swap or transplant surgery has been involved. This let me tell you is a good thing. There are far too many identikit vocalists who are indistinguishable [...]

We've long enjoyed LA's Wounded Lion and their unique yet completely compelling take on classic Garage rock. In fact it has been more than a year since we posted anything from them, but new track Roman Values from forthcoming album LVXLCDM (released this coming week) proves it has been more than worth the wait. It is two and a half minutes of insane garage punk that is driven along by a heavyweight riff, pulsating percussion and a classic shouted vocal. Think Wall Of Voodoo fronted by Jello Biaffra and you'll [...]

After a video teaser last week we finally got our hands on the full Wounded Lion album and its as wonderfully weird and intense as we could hope. Jumping off of the movement made on the band's ferocious debut, IVXLCDM adds the talents of Lars Finberg of The Intelligence/A Frames/Oh Sees fame and his bombastic drumming only winds their sound tighter. Though, at the heart of the Lion is and always will be Brad Eberhard's off-kilter vocals and intense lyrics sprikled with heart and humor and there are plenty of prime examples littered all over IVXLCDM . [...]

It's a fantabulous Friday: ► Back in April, Eastern Conference Champions (that Joshua Ostrander, pictured) released one of our favorite albums of the year, "Speak-Ahh." The trio warms up for a trip overseas with a date at the Satellite, supported by Duniven and Warships . ► Surfer Blood , with a new EP "Tarot Classic" on the way Oct. 25, heads up a big lineup at the Echoplex, with a trio of L.A. bands — Wounded Lion , Dante vs. Zombies and Hands . Check [...]
Get ready for your long July 4th weekend by kicking it off with a '60s dance party with Sonny and the Sunsets, Calvin Johnson, The Sandwitches, and Wounded Lion this Friday, July 1st at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

alice rutherford Download: Animals & Men "John Of The Sword" (from the s/t EP available now from Convulsive!) Courted by Adam Ant—a relationship from which they politely withdrew when he suggested hiring a studio band to re-record their songs—and noted by John Peel, Animals & Men were positioned to take whatever version of fame and fortune the first wave of U.K. post-punk had to offer. But when the big boys came calling, they turned around and [...]

A man, a mask, & man undies = Nobunny As much as I love when I don't have to wait a long time for bands to start I almost hate when they start on time just as much. That being said I showed up to The Echo on Sunday afternoon a little after 6 and I had missed Audacity and Clorox Girls on a lineup that also boasts NOBUNNY, KING TUFF and WOUNDED LION . To this day I have not seen Clorox Girls, which kills me to say! [...]

L.A. RECORD PRESENTS NOBUNNY'S 10TH ANNUAL EASTER SUNDAY BASH WITH NOBUNNY, AUDACITY, CLOROX GIRLS, WOUNDED LION, KING TUFF ON SUNDAY APR. 24TH AT THE ECHO, 1822 WEST SUNSET BOULEVARD, LOS ANGELES. 5:00PM/ $10/ ALL AGES

Wounded Lion Wounded Lion were one of the bands I had the absolute pleasure of discovering -and interviewing- at SXSW. These guys get on stage and let it it all go and magically it sounds really good. Well, not magically, Wounded Lion succeeds sonically because they don't give a shit they just want to make music and have fun. Theirs is a loose sound with eager guitars and unpretentious vocals with a thumping soul of tasty brash cymbals. After seeing them live I find a lot to appreciate [...]
Damn, scary man on the poster aside, this is a great choice for Wednesday, March 16th at SXSW. Three awesome bands: Fungi Girls, Wounded Lion and Bare Wires will all be playing at this shindig and I'm pretty sure the rest of the lineup will be as good. And it's at Beerland, my favorite dingy [...]
Trouble In Mind, the great little label from Chicago, have announced their SXSW showcase that will take place at Shangri-La (1016 East 6th Street) on Friday March 18th. They got an amazing lineup which you should check out below, with bands running from 12-6ish. I would be there if I didn't have a conflict, but [...]
I'm generally not a fan of top x album of the year lists (cause the ones I see on other blogs ignore the massive amount of incredible releases on small labels as well as awesome self-released records) but I decided to do one anyway. Lots of beats and garage rock and most of them are local! Yes, I know some of my favorite releases this year are only singles, but I don't care, they deserve to be on here. TOP 25 RELEASES OF 2010 [...]
