Head-On (Gegen Die Wand) The idea of a marriage of convenience is nothing new in the world of cinema. In fact it seems to have been approached from every possible angle. This is why it is refreshing to see Faith Akin's interpretation of the subject in his fascinating film Head-On . Winner of The Golden Bear Award for Best film at the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival, the film is a dark romance that highlights how love can develop in the most [...]
we've got our memories, different shades of what we've been ♫ Galleries - Young Wounds I'm not sure what's in the air over in Glasgow, Scotland, but it must be something enchanting. Yes, that's the best word I can come up with for this track by the three piece band Galleries; enchanting. Occupying the self proclaimed genre of "epic indie," I can whole heartedly endorse that label. By the power invested in me here at TBE, you owe it to yourself to take a listen. And take a listen loudly. The website, [...]
I gotta be honest, this is my very first post that I discovered via our "submissions" inbox. I know, grill away, I'm just impatient, and I REALLY trust my favorite music blogs to deliver the best in today's music (more than my inbox.) Roast aside, The Galleries, hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, deliver a hopeful, contemporary indie track that was literally the perfect song at the perfect moment for me: "I've gotta feeling, young wounds don't last forever." Besides everything in my life, I was literally sitting down, about to procrastinate my Friday away when this track got me in the [...]
This band of Glaswegians know how to add some warmth and brightness to their cold and wet home. I am beginning think the further north an act is from, the brighter their pop music is. Their latest single 'Young Wounds' is a beautiful, epic pop track that is full of optimistic enthusiasm, reminding us that where we have been and the trials that have wounded us don't last forever and don't always leave a negative mark. If you are searching for pop with something a little more Galleries are a great place to find it. [...]
Better late than never, but here's a good jam from Pendulum! Skrillex also played this song at EDC then was later interrupted by fire alarms and the police. Suck it Po. This is my jam. Salt in The Wounds Check out their website now and be sure to snag this code [KTRKAZ] for a free download! Currently touring in London, Pendulum will be back in the states August 3rd for their DJ set show in San Diego!! Be sure to check them out at the Voyeur and purchase your [...]
Death Songs is a band out of Portland, featuring members of that city's folk-pop outfit The Shaky Hands. "Wounds" is vaguely reminiscent of acts like The Shaky Hands and Quiet Life. It's full on southern-influenced folk that flirts dually with pop and rock, but keeps its roots close. Their song "Wounds", which I've included below, can be found on the latest PDX Pop Now! compilation, which is now available in mp3 format. If you're unfamiliar with the series, it includes an annual two-disc compilation featuring noteworthy [...]
ward robinson Middle Class is Mike Atta, Jeff Atta, Matt Simon and Mike Patton (no, not that Mike Patton). Depending on who you ask, you might be told they are the first ever hardcore band, or you might get kicked in the gut with a pre-scuffed Urban Outfitters combat boot. After a very long spell, the band reunited last year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Frontier Records—the label that put out Middle Class' 1979 EP, "Out of Vogue." Now they're returning to the Echoplex to play a badass L.A. RECORD show [...]
Back in October, on the morning of their slated performance at Austin City Limits Festival, GAYNGS awoke to the unpleasant news that the company they'd leased a tour bus from had ordered theirs back to Nashville without warning, and with all their gear and possessions on board. They were forced to cancel their show, but it would seem that it's all worked out in the end, as the bus company, C.J. Starbuses, Inc., was ordered to pay Gayngs LLC (yup!) to the sweet tune of $100k for compensat...
