"With You Alone," in a fuzzed out, abrasive jam that gets in your space and bullies your eardrums with the threat of violence.

Sweetest Day didn't go well for me. On one hand, I woke up entirely hung over from Friday's Dr. Dog show at Beachland. We had a little Citizen Dick reunion of sorts, with Rob, Brian, and Justin all converging at my place after the amazing set the medicinally astute canine put on for us. Plenty of brews were enjoyed, and after a slew of heated musical and professional debates, I went to bed knowing the morning wouldn't be too sweet. This was correct because my liver was smoking a cigarette next to me when I rolled out of bed. Lesson [...]

I just came across a grimey little ditty from Woven Bones and it reminded me of waking up too early on a Saturday morning, shuffling into the kitchen for some water, only to notice the patio table congested with beer bottles stuffed with cigarette butts. The song,"If You're Gold I'm Gone", can be found on Woven Bones ' latest 123 EP, 'Minus Touch', which was released on the newly formed Zoo Music record label. The EP is limited to 500 copies, and is accompanied with a digital download. Take A Listen: [...]
"If You're Gold, I'm Gone." It's the kind of title that hints at rebellion which won't be explained, and the fuzzy blast of garage rock delivering the message is equally nebulous. This track is off the 12" EP The Minus Touch, 500 copies of which are being put out by Zoo Music. The Austin trio is touring the West Coast in December. [ MVB ]

Woven Bones - "If You're Gold, I'm Gone" From the Austin band's new 123 EP, The Minus Touch , limited to 500 copies and out now on Zoo Music (label of husband/wife Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles & Kristin/"Dee Dee" of Dum Dum Girls ). (via RSTB )

Austin's Woven Bones follow up several hot blooded 7"s with a 4 track EP on Zoo Music, and its chock full of the same venomous, sweat stained rock that made us fall in love with their singles. The boys have a knack for distilling the heavier side of shoegazey psych ala Spacemen 3 and sandblasting it through a heavy shower of fuzz, a pummel of rudimentary drums and kicking the lyrics chock full of enough sneer and swagger to make a young girl blush. It seems as the records get longer, the band just gets better, with "If You're Gold, [...]
Woven Bones are a garage/punk band from Austin, Texas, with a couple seven-inches to their credit and enough buzz to fill Cake Shop on a Saturday night despite the threat of rain, and represent the tip of their genre's bell curve. They're no Thee Oh Sees or Jay Reatard, but they're certainly not the worst garage punk band either. They satisfy all the genre's musical touchstones (ramshackle song structure; fast, lo-fi guitar playing, snotty vocals, etc), and aesthetics (shaggy hair, plaid, standing drummer), but satisfied to such a degree that at any point during the band's performance one could [...]

Polvo Chapel Hill's Polvo, probably the finest art, rock, prog and middle eastern tinged indie rock band of the 90's, fully reunited, play the Bottom Lounge Saturday night. Merge is set to release their new record, In Prisms on the September 8, so there's about a 100% chance you'll be hearing 2009 Polvo mixed in with the classics. If you're unfamiliar with the open ended power of 90's style indie rock get yourself to the Bottom Lounge for a little history lesson. [...]

A few fuzzy gem's from Sweet Rot, who not only have a great eye for bands but also keep the designs pleasing and the card stock thick on these latest 7"s Woven Bones – Your Sorcery 7" First up is a familiar name around these parts. Texas' Woven Bones continue to bring the sweat soaked thunder, choked with high plains dust and the acrid aroma of asphalt. The flip backs off the intensity, but only slightly, locking into a laid back [...]
"We've got a fuzzbox and we're gonna use it" Wild, gemein und dreckig - wie ihre Vorbilder The Sonics, The 13th Floor Elevators oder The Seeds - wollen die Woven Bones klingen. A little bit of squalid Rock & Roll for you today: Thee Oh Sees continue their run of excellent releases with a 7" for Woodsist records. 'Tidal Wave' has more than just a whiff of 'Have Love Will Travel' and is all the better for it. Grab it here . Thee Oh Sees- Tidal Wave (Download) Woven Bones come from Austin, Texas & (by their own admission) have spent way too much time listening to the Velvet Underground. 'With You Alone' sounds [...]

Half way into the year and we've already amassed an incredible itunes library for 2009 alone. While creating a list of "top songs" is never easy (someone is always the fat kid on the playground basketball court), there was actually a method to the madness in this list. Whether it was looking at play counts or songs that I know I've listened to at least 100+ times in my car, the rankings in this list are "accurate". Things did get a bit hairy in the top 10, but they're all favorites really. Don't forget to send in your top tunes [...]

More good news out of the Woven Bones camp in the form of a killer sigle on Needless. Place their upcoming full length high on our list of anticipated releases for the second half of '09. Woven Bones – Janie 7" The A-side rips out of the gates on vapors of cracked leather and dried sweat. Pounding like the first waves of adrenaline stupor the track is air-tight garage furor. The B-side, as with their Hozac single, lets things down easy; providing the [...]

Anyone in the metroplex area that can make it to Denton Wednesday night will not be sorry. A house show featuring Woven Bones (early weeklytapedeck write up ), Uptown Bums , and Bad Sports is happening and will surely be a good time. I will be out with my deteriorating video skills in hopes of bringing our first live performance to the 'deck. If you do make it out, please bring money for Woven Bones who are making the trip up from Austin. Also a new track from them as of yesterday via [...]

Woven Bones is an Austin three-piece whose music is a psychedelic-shoegaze-rock and roll concoction filled with rumbling distortion, fuzzy vocal effects and thick reverb that immediately brings to mind The Velvet Underground. Woven Bones also name-drops influences that include Link Wray, The Gun Club, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. I was hooked as soon as I heard the wah-wah guitar action on their song "Grown Crazy." Needless Records recently released it on a split single with Miami garage rockers Jacuzzi Boys, and that same label will release "Janie" on seven-inch May [...]

If you live here in Austin, tomorrow is one crazy day for live music options in our town. We're not sure we can remember a day that was so packed as this one as far as music goes. So packed, in fact, that we can't fit all these shows on our main page. Follow the jump to see full details on all the great shows going down Tuesday. The big show everyone's talking about for Tuesday is My Bloody Valentine at Austin Music Hall . This is a special one as [...]
The Singles Collection is contributor Jason Jackowiak's weekly column focusing on rare and essential 7″ releases. We gladly accept all types of 7″ for consideration. Honestly, we don't really have the time or energy for a long, witty opening diatribe this week. Plus we're still in a half-sugar coma from Easter, so we'll let the stellar platters do the lion's share of the talking this week, which, should be easy, as we've got some real scorchers. Getting us started this week is the new single from [...]

So as bummed as I was to have somehow missed the Sub Pop singles club this time around (I'll catch the highlights on eBay I suppose) I'm that much more thrilled to have gotten in on the HoZac Hookup Klub in all its fuzzy lo-fi glory. First round is as sweet as can be and I'm now salivating for the next installment. Woven Bones - HoZac Hookup Klub 7" From the first note of this single you can hear just why these [...]
