Finally, the republican reign of terror is over. 77 days until Obama paints he white house black and renames Washington D.C. "Chocolate City". Sorry for the Parliment references, but it was the first thing I thought of today. So now that it's finally over, everything is going to be peachy keen. Right? Probably not. The credit [...]

Wu-Tang - Gravel Pit (Disco Villains Remix)

Something that I might not yet understand in regards to music and mp3 blogging. When an artist/band/label sends you a track, unless otherwise stated, they are giving you permission to post that track on your blog. Right? Did I miss a memo somewhere... cos while I haven't yet received any warnings personally about violating any RIAA etc rules, I know other blogs have. Other way more successful and coherent blogs. What gives those agencies the tip is beyond me. Btw, all these straight from the gmail account. Alternative content Mp3: [...]
The genius minds at L.A. Record have done it again with their "New Depression Podcast" I'm coining the genres first - poverty music, broke-pop, nu-money-metal, pofolk rock, candle-onica, dub-bankruptcy with inevitable best new artists: DJ Dow Jones, the Moneylenders, Too Poor for A Name and NestEgg Omelettes. In the spirit of doing a good turn because it's free, here's a repost: One thing we like talking about as much as music is the coming of the next great depression and the book Hard Times by Studs Terkel. (And American Pictures by Jacob [...]
Random as hell. But funny.

So this is my first post to the new WVFS Underground Railroad Music/Culture Blog community, and I must say that it is an honor to be a part of this team and to work with every single individual on this show. Speaking for myself, since joining the WVFS V89 radio station family in the summer of 2006 (an event that actually changed my life), I always wished to take part in the Saturday afternoon specialty show affectionately known as the "Underground Railroad." This was a program that spoke to me, though not a full blown historian or head, [...]

One reason that I always give people for staying in Boston (as opposed to moving back home to New York) after college is the deranged number of hip-hop shows and DJ nights around the Bean and Cambridge. Sure, technically only Los Angeles' rap scene can truly compare with New York's; those are the only two guaranteed tour and promo destinations for every major label artist and worthwhile underground cat. But Boston seems to filter out the trash; it's a music town in the fullest sense, with an indie rock ethos that bleeds into the rap community. For [...]

While perusing my music collection the other day I stumbled upon this gem from a Finnish artist named Rico Tubbs . He made this incredibly upbeat tempo track with a killer, bubbly synth, not to mention a vocal sample from my man Ol' Dirty Bastard. What could ever be better than a Wu-Tang/ electro combo? Nothing. Enjoy the rawness and get at me with your thoughts on Rico! Rico Tubbs - I Like It Raw Brookah J

Unless you check this before I leave Boston or after I arrive in New York, as you read this I'm on my way to Manhattan to cover tomorrow's 9/11 ceremonies at Ground Zero for The Boston Phoenix. I'm going because both Obama and McCain will patronizingly be there together, but you can read about that next week. For now - or for Wu-Tang Wednesday, I should say - I want to recognize that great moment in American history when Ghostface stood atop the downtown rubble and took control of the situation like a great MC should. [...]

Over the years, countless Wu-Tang affiliated producers, emcees and collectives have emulated the blueprint laid by the Shaolin progenitors, however very few have achieved both the critical and commercial success of producer/emcee Bronze Nazareth. Now, with the "Thought For Food" 2 CD collection, Bronze further solidifies his widespread reputation as the front running successor to the "new-Wu." Serving as the creative bedrock for multiple solo and group releases (including The Wisemen and the supergroup Almighty), Bronze is primarily renowned for his contributions to legendary albums from the RZA, GZA/Genius, Killah Priest, [...]
