The indie version of Jaws ? This is the post of 2 July 2012, in which I once again ignore my edict of New Music Monday, being that songs featured here be no more than 12 months in age, by featuring a song that is in fact nearly a full 16 months in age, but in which I once again also say the hell with it, close enough. And the song that I have deemed worthy of breaking the bylaws of New Music Monday? That would be "Dogs Eyes," by [...]
Baltimore indie duo Wye Oak are the latest band to partake in Adult Swim's Singles Program , following Unknown Mortal Orchestra's " Ill Come Back 4 U " and The Hives' live rendition of "Go Right Ahead." The new cut from the indie folk pair is titled "Spiral" and sees them steering away from the more natural sound they've utilized in their past work, instead opting for vocal effects and programmed drum beats. The result is still fantastic, though, with a haunting tone and rhythmic guitar riffs offering a unique and enticing soundscape. [...]

Ahora, es momento de darle una buena escuchada a la aportacion de Wye Oak dentro de esta serie de A dult Swim , con un corte [...]

If you aren’t familiar with Wye Oak , there’s a good chance that the Baltimore-based indie folk two-piece exists just outside of your musical periphery. Since being signed to Merge Records in 2008, the band has released three well-received albums, seen the title track for their most recent LP Civilian used extensively in promos for the TV show The Walking Dead , and, just recently, was announced as one of the support acts for The Dirty Projectors’ summer tour - though, sadly, not for the 8/14 show at Headliners. With an earthy and at [...]
Consequence of Sound' s Summer Tour Guide will lead you to the darkest, dankest (not every venue has a ventilation system, folks) concerts where you can dance the night away after spending too many hours in the sun. From Dirty Projectors to Phish to the Diplo/Grimes/Skrillex extravaganza that is the Full Flex Express, we've listed the best and brightest artists that are touring new or as-of-yet unreleased albums , touring around festival appearances, or just touring because it's damn fun. -Harley Brown Associate Editor Feature artwork [...]
5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let’s get weird. Words by Chris If you look deep into a doggie’s eyes, you see either pure innocent love of life or the kill-or-be-killed instinct sewn into their DNA by their savage wolf heritage. Here’s some songs right on that line. [...]
Tweet I'm sitting here in my designated chair in the Listening Room at SGTMT Headquarters, listening to three tracks from Baltimore's Wye Oak and it's becoming clear they are a band I haven't investigated nearly enough. Three albums and an EP into their career, they seem to have a perfect grasp of how to mix folk with a dash of pop sensibilities and the twin vocals of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack compliment each other so well. I've got [...]

Track Review: Wye Oak – “Spiral”
For the third year in a row, Adult Swim has launched their Singles Program through which they reveal new tracks for 12 straight weeks. So far in 2012, we’ve already heard from Unknown Mortal Orchestra and The Hives. Today brings us another new single, “Spiral,” from Baltimore duo Wye Oak, who last year released a great record in Civilian . If you’re already familiar with Wye Oak, then “Spiral” may seem like a different flavor from what you’re used to tasting – but that’s not a bad thing at all. Vocalist/guitarist Jenn Wasner’s vocals are riddled [...]

Shorties (Chris Cleave, Wye Oak, and more)
Chris Cleave talks to Weekend Edition about his new novel, Gold . Read an excerpt from the book . On what he hopes readers will discuss after reading the novel "[That's] exactly what the issue is: Is it something that you would like your child to do? To compete at this very highest level, knowing that to win is also to break someone else's dreams? My answer to that is nuanced. I think that there's something extremely beautiful about the Olympic ideal and its [...]

Listen: Flock Of Dimes – “REPLICA”
Jenn Wasner , of Wye Oak , has been recording and slowly trickling out songs she's been working on solo for a while now under Flock Of Dimes , something she refers to as a "vanity project of questionable skill and intent" on their Facebook . A few days ago, she posted " REPLICA ", an undeniably catchy pop song, that was inspired by (and offered to) Robyn and one which may surprise some fans. Wasner explains: "Sometimes you are a fan of [...]
