Wye Oak - Take It In There's one cigarette I miss above all. Months after quitting, I'm still bumping into smokes I miss: the drunk-at-2-a.m.-out-on-the-bal cony cig, the fuck-my-job-end-of-shift cig, the I'm-feeling-emotionally-insecu re-but-bet-a-cig-would-make-me -look-cool cig. But the return of MLS reminded me of my favorite: the I-filed-three-times-at-that-ga me cig. Brown-papered cloves would wait in the cup holder of my Civic. I would sit down at the steering wheel and sigh, exhausted but fulfilled. I liked to dangle the cig in my mouth for a few minutes, winding down, tasting the sugar-sweetness of the filter, staring into the dark [...]

I am nothing without pretend I know my thoughts Can't live with them One of the greatest songs of 2011 was Wye Oak 's Civillain . Together vocalist Jenn Wasner and multi-instrumentalist Andy Stack of Wye Oak create such sheer intensity and surprise in the craftsmanship of their lyrics to the actual music. Engineer John Congleton known for his brilliance in producing works for Modest Mouse, Shearwater, [...]

Frank Yang If you were to ask me what I thought MOG did - and for the life of me I can't imagine why you would - the best I could offer is that they excel at getting my exhausted ass out of bed early on the Saturday of SXSW to go line up at The Mohawk so I can stand around for hours on end. They did it last year with a bill of Smith Westerns , Wild Flag , Okkervil River and TV On [...]

We've mentioned it a few times before, but if you're not parting with $2 per month to access the daily Daytrotter sessions then more fool you. More fool you because, for example, you'll have missed out on recent sessions from Boxer Rebellion, Slow Club, Nathaniel Rateliff, Avi Buffalo and Heartless Bastards , and you'll have missed the excellent Wye Oak session from yesterday, that included this cover of Neil Young's classic Pocahontas ... Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars It's been about three whole years since we last heard from Raleigh's Bowerbirds ; their last effort Upper Air definitely warmed all our hearts. After one listen to The Clearing , you'll be glad the band waited; this record's assuredly the best thing they've put together with their unique blend of folk, strings and sweet melodies. Momentarily a guitar is plucked as "Tuck the Darkness In" begins, but the band quickly [...]

Photos by Nicole L. Browner There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe how incredible Wye Oak was on Friday night at the Independent. If you're a fan of the band's gothic country indie rock (or whatever the hell it is) on record, then you must see them live. No matter how much you like the recordings, you will gain new insight into the band's sound once you hear their songs with extreme quiet-to-loud dynamics — like "Holy Holy" or "Plains" from their 2011 album [...]

![Wye Oak @ The Independent for Noise Pop 2012 [Photo Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4094197_lg.jpg)
Wye Oak, the indie folk duo of Andy Stack and Jenn Wasner, made an exhausting trek up from LA to play the Independent last night as part of San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival. Their schedule was so tight, they barely had time to catch their own opening acts. In one of many hilarious asides she made over the course of their set, Jenn credited “cow adrenaline” as the saving grace that helping her through the evening. Whatever it was, it worked – I wouldn’t have known of their exhaustion if Jenn didn’t throw it into her banter. Andy [...]
February is coming to a close and I made up this little mix for a certain occasion. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. 01 Wilco - I'm Always In Love 02 Darwin Deez - Radar Detector 03 Bon Iver - Come Talk To Me (Peter Gabriel Cover) 04 Ellie Goulding - Your Song 05 Stars - Sleep Tonight (Junior Boys Remix) [...]

Jenn Wasner and Andy Stacks couldn’t have placed themselves farther apart Thursday night, but even from opposite ends of the Troubadour stage, the duo known as Wye Oak connected for an hour of electrifying shoegaze and folk-pop. Their set-up was spare, with Wasner minding her guitar and pedal board on the right, while Stacks took to the drums and keyboards on the left like a human octopus. The black backdrop eliminated any distractions onstage, leaving only the neon glow of the venue's sign. ||| Photos by Laurie Scavo [...]
