When discussing obscure rock and roll bands from the 1960s, you often find yourself mired in the same old backstory; local band starts out in some cat's garage and tries on Beatles and Stones songs for size until they finally meet Sgt. Pepper , turn on with the rest of the country, chip in for a sitar and some guitar effects, and start getting metaphysical. Fortunately, however, you will occasionally get a group of musicians that has a tale far more interesting and unique – such as Ya Ho Wa 13. Formed not out of someone's garage [...]
"Our home is Epsilon Boötis, which is a double star. We live on the sixth planet of seven—check that, the sixth of seven—counting outwards from the sun, which is the larger of the two stars. Our sixth planet has one moon. Our fourth planet has three. Our first and third planet each have one. Our [...]

Originally released in 2008, Sonic Portation was the first album recorded under the Ya Ho Wa 13 name since the late 70's. Now Prophase has issued this triumphant return on limited vinyl, making it all the more desirable. If you've read these pages before you'll know the story of Father Yod and his band of disciples/restaurateurs. Now Yod is long gone but three of the faithful have picked the name back up and oddly enough time has only strengthened them musically. Original Yod Family members Djin, Octavius and Sunflower pick up the improvised reigns and not only do [...]
So I'm not one much for tributes but it seems a shame to let one of the garage greats fall without notice. For all his eccentricities (see the YaHoWa years) Sky Saxon was a welcome voice in the halls of garage punk history. Sad to see him pass. Screw moments of silence... turn these up! [MP3] The Seeds - Pushin' Too Hard (live) Well it seems only fitting to start things off with the track that keeps The Seeds in the peripheral of the masses. A nice live version of the [...]

In the late 19th and early 20th Century, there had been many flourishing esoteric orders in Germany and Austria that sought to establish a reborn Germanic identity and to reconnect the people with their repressed archetypes. One of the most significant of these Orders was founded in Germany in 1912 - the German Order, and from this sprang the Thule Society, the Thulegesellschaft. The Thule Society took its name from the fabled land of Ultima Thule, which the Ukrainian witch Madame Helena Blavatsky learned of after having been contacted by the Great Race that had survived its destruction. [...]

Welcome to the end of the weekend. I don't have anything to write about, so instead I'll show you a very quick video. A couple years ago I showed up at a birthday party with Ken and Z. I didn't know anybody else there. I did not know the kid whose birthday it was. But, for some reason, I felt obligated to stand up during his birthday toast and say a few words about him. I don't remember why, but I guess it was pretty funny. Anyway, here's video footage of the short speech I gave (I'm not the first [...]

Inspired by the fact that this band is now touring again after years of silence as detailed in the news section , I went back to rediscover some of the chaotic charm of this oft overlooked group. The group started as a cultish following of Father Yod who would later be known as Yahowa. Yod assumed a godlike status for himself and drew followers around the Laurel Canyon area of California, operating out of his health food restaurant in the area. There's a good break down of the albums and some back story culled from a Byron Coley piece [...]
