So I'm seriously trying to get my take on the new Daft Punk album out, but I still feel like I need to listen to it a couple more times. My very first impression on the album was it was mediocre, but with each subsequent listen, it quickly changed to godlike. I think it needs to settle a bit before I write anything more about it. Starting off with an amazing track once again remixed by CHVRCHES of MS MR . I love it. It could be a CHVRCHES [...]

Hello everyone! The photo above is a crane I saw at Canary Wharf in London. ( download the high res version ) Not sure why I picked it today, it just felt right. Things have been a mess around here lately because @DorothyJS and I have been travelling so much. So my apologies for the weak performance. Sometimes work, travel, and having fun get in the way of running this website. Back in the day when only a few of you we're listening it didn't matter. But now that there are thousands of people listening each [...]
Chlöe Howl only has three songs out, but they're all really good and she has a major label (Sony) putting her on so, bam, here were are lstening to the latest remix of the brilliant-in-the-first-place "Rumour." YACHT does this slinky rendition that comes off well, and if nothing else calls our attention back to Howl , who now has an EP out for free . Grab it off her site in exchange for an email. Back in March, we posted the video for " Howl ," a truly excellent plainspoken pop single from the teenage British singer Chlöe Howl. The Portland electro-pop duo YACHT have now remixed that track, turning it into full-blooded, fleet-footed dance-pop that wouldn't sound out of place on the new Disclosure album (which, I feel compelled to point out again, fucking rules .) It's a great remix, and you can hear it below. Read More...

By Stef Siepel May 16, 2013 If you follow our Twitter feed , you will have seen this one pass: A short documentary by Red Bull Music Academy of twelve years of DFA . It's a must see. Not because of its in-depth look into the music industry (it isn't), nor for great reveals or juicy back stories (it hasn’t). But because - in all its lightness, fun, and short running time - you do get an idea of (and have to marvel at) how such a small [...]

By Stef Siepel May 10, 2013 The Weekly Froth! A weekly take on six tracks, most of which have recently popped up somewhere in the blogosphere. Bit of a mixed bag with a slight leaning towards house, disco, and remixes, but generally just anything that for some reason tickled the writer’s fancy. Track of the week: ‘Melancholia’ by Rebeka ( UL/KR remix) I chanced upon Rebeka as the [...]

TONY KINGSTON has certainly been keeping himself busy lately. On top of working in a full time job and writing for us, he has started running a monthly event at Ching-a-Lings in Sydney called ABE ENJOYS A SUNDAY SESH . The name is based on the reformed character of Abraham Lincoln, who these days is really into his electronic music and the occasional groove on the dance floor. TONY told us that the purpose of his parties are “to give friends the opportunity [...]

The "watch" tag in the headline is a bit of a tease as there's nothing really to watch right this second other than this rather short teaser. Red Bull Music Academy put together a short film about James Murphy and his New York City based imprint, DFA. The film features music and appearances by LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Holy Ghost!, The Juan MacLean, Sh*t Robot, YACHT, Sinkane and more and will be premiered on May 8th on Red Bull Music Academy . That's this Wednesday, mark your calendars. You might also like: [...]

It’s Saturday, so that means it’s once again time for Shorthanded Goals. Shorthanded Goals is an informal mixtape of the best sounds from the past week (or weeks) that I didn’t get a chance to cover. These tracks arrive via the Sirens of Decay inbox from bands/labels/PR folks and occasionally readers, as well as from my own exploration of Soundcloud or Bandcamp. They are all great tracks looking for a new home. These are the tracks I end up missing, so [...]
Undeniably more innocent than Amanda Knox, Oscar Pistorius and O.J. Simpson holding each other’s fun-bags during a random police lineup, RAC’s unquestionable sleek phrases are etched all over the band of the month – Phoenix, super alternative freaks - YACHT, and the highly versatile Steel Train. RAC rests another fine case, your Honour. PHOENIX - Trying To Be Cool (RAC Mix) **FREE DOWNLOAD** YACHT - Second Summer (RAC Mix) STEEL TRAIN - You Are Dangerous (RAC Mix) [...]
