"It is not a film score. It is not classical music. It is not post-rock. It is pure and beautiful music at its [...]
Katsuhiko Maeda returns with his first album in three years. Seven Idiots heightens the emphasis on rock instrumentation by incorporating guitars and percussion more than his past efforts, but Maeda's idiosyncratic tendencies remain prevalent and he again creates an excellent addition to his vastly underrated discography. I doubt this is a sound you have ever heard before, so brace yourself.
Ian suggested I rank the "top ten Japanese albums" for my next installment of the Friday Top Ten franchise. That's right, it's a franchise now. Good Sunday, friends. Today was one of those perfect lazy days when you wake up (in a bagel-less house, oh, the horror!), head out to the market, and then spend the afternoon eating nachos and drinking strawberry champagne in the company of good people. Everyone professed their love for one another. It was rather beautiful in a warm and fuzzy way. Tonight I think I'm staying in. Last night was the first night in a while that did not end with me drunkenly passing out somewhere, though I did alter my state and try to watch an episode of "Lost" [...]

Photo credit: Michael.DK This list is for Gilles and all of our other readers who are trapped between their office walls all throughout this summer. While everyone else is on vacation, enjoying the great weather, swimming, going to the beach, making new friends, barbequing, having careless fun, driving around in cabriolets, making out all day or just relaxing, there is a small group of unfortunate people who still sit behind their office computer, everyday, from 9 to 5, no air-conditioning, with sweaty suits clinging to their bodies, musty air, endless paperwork, tiresome office regulations [...]
