The Kooks have long held my attention since their debut at Spaceland back in 2006 . Six years later, The Kooks are touring behind their third album Junk of the Heart and selling out much larger venues playing to more fanatical fans. A tremendous line of patrons snaked around the Fox Theater in Pomona eager to secure a spot on the rail. A row of risers dominated the front of the stage as a deafening roar of female screams cascaded around the theater upon the [...]

Monday Afternoon Quick Fix runs every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed. • In stories that make you go "hmm" news, Gossip Wolf reveals that Chicago math rockers Del Ray have noticed a sales boost in Germany . Naturally, this can only be attributed to confusion with pouty pop temptress Lana Del Ray? • Brooklyn Vegan Chicago has some rad shots from last Tuesday's Tortoise show at the Empty Bottle . [...]

Seeing how our staff has distinct tastes and opinions on music, it would be nearly impossible for us to determine a 10 Albums of 2011 list as a single entity without excessive bloodshed. So over the next couple of days, we’ll be posting Top 10 Albums of 2011 lists as determined by individual Loud Loop Press staff members. Today, associate editor Audrey Leon offers up her list for Top 10 Albums of 2011. I decided to do it a little differently this year. I honestly didn't think I could find another way to describe how great [...]

Did you dig YAWN's latest LP Open Season as much as we did? Are you remix savvy? If you answered a triumphant "YES!" to both those questions, we've got some good news for you. Those quirky psych-poppers have offered up the stems from all of Open Season's tracks for download. Simply head here and grab'em. And if you needed more motivation, YAWN is asking fans to [...]

So...I suppose I'm a tad bit late to the year-end-best-of-lists party but oh well. Josh already offered up his favorite tracks in the year-end best-of playlist and, while our lists have a lot of crossover, I thought I'd offer up my favorite 50 tracks from the past year. I've struggled with the idea of trying to put a 'best-of' stamp on anything I listen to based solely on the fact that I'm not all that comfortable with the idea of ranking all the tracks I love. This is more a representation of all my favorite tracks from [...]

FRIDAY BAD BAD MEOW Chicago quartet will unleash their country punk stylings on yet another unsuspecting rock audience at Cole's tonight. The group summon the lyrical prowess [...]

Super last minute, but C=T has been given a pair of tickets to catch the Kooks at the Ogden Theatre tomorrow night with Yawn. The Kooks are touring in support of their latest album, "Junk of the Heart" that you can buy here and to score the pair of tickets, all you have to do is tell me where the band hails from. Send your answer via Twitter to @ Causeequalstime or email (julio.enriquez@gmail.com). Good luck! Photo via Deirde O'Callaghan. The Kooks - The [...]

Magic City , the lo-fi, sugary light, pop band from the great city of Chicago is doing it's best to set itself apart from the pack of lo-fi, sugary light, pop bands. All jokes aside, you could easily mistake Magic City for another Brooklyn-based band trying to bust it's way from the walls of a Williamsburg bar. What makes these guys special is the animated nature of the lead singer's simply innocent vocals and the non-strategic guitar jams that pepper their way into each song. The tracks from their recently released Little Bits EP are lofty and [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Yeasayer, Animal Collective, The Unicorns "YAWN - YumYum" What's so good? Alright shufflers, I need to tell you about this band YAWN. They are four guys from Chicago who are combining so many different avant-garde influences of yesteryears and today's underground music movement. Oh, and... their music will not make you yawn in the least. [...]
While the stage setup resembled a combined McDonalds play place and the secret garden, indie-pop vets Mates of State (@matesofstate) employed no gimmicks, getting an unexpectedly amped Webster Hall crowd off of their feet last Wednesday evening. Relying on their hook-heavy dance beats and basic yet booming vocals, husband-wife combo of Jason Hammel (drums, vocals) and Kori Gardner (keys, vocals) brought the audience to life. The evening kicked off with a short set by Chicago buzz-band YAWN (@yawnmusic), who laid a solid foundation for the [...]

Fall is one of those seasons when people chose to be outside. During this time, give me a park and a pair of headphones and I'll be utterly content with life. The big question is, what will satisfy our ears this Fall? Recently discovered through YAWN , Northpilot is another band from Chicago and they offer two melancholic songs with an ambitious disposition. These two songs are "Maps and Dragons" and "1000 Lives." Both tracks contain a little folk and a little experimental. I personally like how they incorporate the piano into their band. [...]
This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending a pretty solid show at the Ottobar. Other Lives and YAWN, two bands I've talked about before, sounded great on record and backed it up live.... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

The four handsome young men pictured above are YAWN . They are a band from Chicago and thankfully, their music is nothing like their bitter winters, nor does it make you yawn. Instead, think of an electronically intensified version of The Morning Benders . With solid fundamentals of an indie rock band, these guys amp it with a layer of Yeasayer and spice it with The Unicorns . YAWN's album, Open Season , is a total catch. It's hard for me to pick a favorite since each track is endlessly [...]
