The four handsome young men pictured above are YAWN . They are a band from Chicago and thankfully, their music is nothing like their bitter winters, nor does it make you yawn. Instead, think of an electronically intensified version of The Morning Benders . With solid fundamentals of an indie rock band, these guys amp it with a layer of Yeasayer and spice it with The Unicorns . YAWN's album, Open Season , is a total catch. It's hard for me to pick a favorite since each track is endlessly [...]
Our friends from Oh, Sister Records took this magnificent live video at Dampfzentrale in Bern recently. It shows us Lucerne-based foursome Dans La Tente – we wrote about their new album here some weeks ago – performing their song «Yawn» . mp3 | Yawn

I had a post ready to go on Mates of State playing at the Canal Club on Monday with Other Lives , Yawn and one of my favorite local bands Marionette . It was going to be an awesome show and I was eagerly looking forward to it. Then, Mates of State canceled the show because they got a better offer. The band will now be playing the David Letterman show.I'm pretty angry and disappointed that [...]
![YAWN’S OPEN SEASON [8.6]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3737093_lg.jpg)
Acid - YAWN Joining the indie-electronic crowd alongside bands such as Animal Collective , Yeasayer , and Panda Bear , is Chicago-based YAWN (@yawnmusic). The quartet’s debut LP, Open Season , was released at the end of August, and after weeks of listening to it repetitively, I can fully attest to its truly fantastic sound. Open Season includes plenty of percussive afro-beats, pulsing synths, wavering vocal ranges and beautifully executed harmonies, all smothered in luscious reverb glory. While these elements make the album cohesive, they’re [...]

It's that time of year again. Time for music to take over in Over The Rhine. MidPoint Music Festival is back and is planning to throw a real party this year to celebrate thier 10th anniversary. It's been a really interesting 'Decade of Audio Addiction' (the festivals tagline this year) and even though it wasn't always pretty, the festival is still standing ten years later and is arguably better than it has ever been. For my festival preview this year, I want to again highlight some of the bands [...]

It's been a while since we announced Mates of State 's fall tour dates , and it looks like they've added a few more in the meantime. It looks like the band will be sharing the stage with not only Suckers , Yawn , and Other Lives , but also Generationals and Ra Ra Riot . The full expanded tour date is posted below. Mates of State tour dates: Dates marked * w/ Suckers Dates marked # w/ [...]

Historically, September has been a really good month for Kasey and me. Kasey and I got married in September 2009. I began my new job in September 2010. And this year we are putting the final touches on our very first Pairings Box! That may be why the September mixes have always been some of my best. For example, my very first mix I ever shared with our readers was in September 2009 (sorry - it is no longer available), and I think the Musical Pairings' September 2010 Mix (which is still available) has held up [...]
With a restless spirit, and various members spread across various bands about town, it's been a while since we've heard anything from the Cleveland, psych-pop band, The Dreadful Yawns. This video, here, for "F Song," is a quick reminder why they've been one of the driving forces in the Northeast, Ohio music scene over the past five years. While the track begins as a quaint, poppy strummer, accompanied by the slight plink of piano, it takes a couple nifty twists along the way - Seriously, check out that freak out around the minute mark - Yet, never loses [...]

YAWN Three Tuesday-needs-to-go-out-with-a -bang-not-a-whimper reasons to mosey over to Schubas Tavern tonight... 1. Chicago psych poppers Yawn are celebrating the release of their record Open Season at Schubas tonight so expect good vibes aplenty. The quartet loves to experiment with wild soundscapes and visuals that are unusual, to say the least, but every so often the group kicks in a catchy beat or hook and then you can't help but get caught up in the magical nature of it all. [...]

There's a fine line between rip-off and inspiration. And, really, it's in the eye of the beholder. That's why to some, Chicago's Yawn may sound nothing more than a retread of the wild psychedelic antics of an Animal Collective or Yeasayer. But it's sad to think that some would dismiss a band as such when it's something not only different but maybe even more. Yes, Yawn do go for that expansive, uber-melodic psychedelic pop sound that is becoming popular not just with big [...]

In their full-length debut the buzz band YAWN deliver on the promise of the 2010 self-titled ep. The band incorporates tribal influence with their unquie indie rock roots. The result is fun, and undenibly orginial. Through incorporating tribal elements the band is able to present an array of sounds throuh out the album while crafting infectious pop tunes. On a track like "Keepup", YAWN swirls drums with churning bells, claps, and other noises beneath classic '60's harmonies. It draws you in on a number of levels, and that is where the charm of the band rest. [...]

With only two weeks left till the release of their highly-anticipated debut LP, Open Season YAWN (@yawnmusic) has released a video for the first single, "Acid". A textural dreamscape of layers building upon layers, this visual feast is a perfect interpretation of the track. Check it out via Rolling Stone.
So, psych-poppers YAWN have a new video titled "Acid," which is from their upcoming debut LP Open Season , and it's just as trippy as you'd imagine. Fuzzy, swirling colors and giant-eye-like glowing spirals all capture the song's melodic, psychedelic nature, which leads to a surprisingly rocking and guitar driven climax. The video premiered a few days on some music blog called RollingStone.com . I know it's not Pitchfork, but I think it may be a big deal or something. Anyway, catch YAWN's record release show on Tuesday, August [...]
It seems like it could be hard to get excited about a band named Yawn , but their seemingly Ziggy Stardust-inspired/totally trippy video for "Acid" is pretty cool. If it's enough to get you interested, be sure to check out the band on tour; their schedule is posted below. Yawn tour dates: Dates marked * w/ Suckers Dates marked # w/ Other Lives 8/30 - Chicago, IL - Schubas 9/21 - Washington DC - 930 Club * 9/23 - Pittsburgh, PA - Mr. Smalls [...]
