Continuing our best of 2010 coverage we now look at some of the awesome songs recorded by our pals at Daytrotter this year. And I will just go and say it... Daytrotter is quite possibly my favorite places to find music on the internet. If you are not clicking over there at least one a week, you are really missing out. Yes, you have to register and use their java-based downloader thingy, but it is so worth it. These are our favorite Daytrottin' tracks of 2010 . Listen. Downloadables: [...]
It's pretty much impossible not to like Yea Big + Kid Static's brand of fresh, honest-to-goodness hip hop. They've been making noise together since 2005 and with their latest release, The Future's Looking Grim, it sounds as though they've only just begun. Here's there brand new video for "Heavy Catamaran," a song from their 2006 [...]

My friends and I created a mixtape club a few years back with the idea that we'd meet, share mixtapes, listen to mixtapes, eat pizza and have a few beers together. For music obsessives like myself - it was not just a great way to hear new music, but an awesome way to spend the day. The first meeting was a success, so we kept it going - month after month for over a year - until for some reason we just stopped sometime early last year. Recently, we decided it was time to get the band [...]

Once again it's time to look back into the past. This mix starts with two covers and it even has a remix of a Passion Pit song. Luckily, the remix is by Pollination . As any of my friends/people who have read the sidebar of my multiple social networking Website profiles know, I don't want kids. I love my niece and believe the children are our future and stuff, but do I personally want a constantly starving sandbag sutured to my leg for 18 years? The answer is no...UNLESS I was guaranteed a gem like Henry here. Considering my childhood tendency to copy the moves while watching Soul Train and the fact that I was a ginger kid, the odds are in my favor! Henry, you're making me question everything I thought [...]

Yea Big/Kid Static are a rap group from Chicago that are trying to make sense of the hipster dance rap that the Cool Kids, Kid Sister and Flosstadomus have made their city known for but at the same time showing a definate glitch Prefuse 73/Flying Lotus tendancy. Kid Static's flow sounds kinda awkward but I mean who could sound fluid over a hybrid of two different styles of electronic music. Especially when a "real" hip hop vibe prevails. Awkward Party rap will prolly go over well @ bike punk haven Monster House. Awkward, rapping, bike riding fan [...]

...in case you weren't paying attention, we've got a HUGE weekend coming up in the Gem City this weekend. Several great touring bands will be heading into Dayton this weekend, among them will be Chicago hip-hop duo, Yea Big + Kid Static . Although it's been almost a year since we last saw them, we have not forgotten the incredibly high-energy set these two deliver. With their self-titled debut out on Jib Door and their relentless touring schedule, better make plans to catch them at Blind Bob's this Saturday, or wherever they'll be close to [...]
New heat from Yea Big + Kid Static off of their album upcoming album The Future's Looking Grim . On this video, the duo brings to life one of my favorite 8 bit game heroes, MEGA MAN! The video is hilarious, they go around town dancing and making silly moves with their cardboard armors. "Bots" | download Yea Big + Kid Static | Tour Dates | Buy

I know there are a lot of big and highly anticipated albums being released this year, but for me it doesn't get any bigger then the sophomore release from Chicago's dynamic duo of Yea Big and Kid Static . The Future's Looking Grim will be out digitally on their Jib Door imprint on April Fool's day, but in the meantime they have given us an advanced look at a track that I have seen performed live twice, "Bots". The track is basically Yea Big laying down a futuristic electro beat, and Kid Static imaging what [...]

Shy town's Yea Big and Kid Static are at it again! Their forthcoming album, The Future's Looking Grim, is digitally dropping in April via Jib Door but we've got the single for you! BOTS is an all out tribute to their favorite 8-bit video game character, Mega Man. It's dope and complete with full on Mega Man sounds made into beats! While you wait for the new joint, you can check out some dates in your hood . Also check out this dope video for "The Life Here," [...]

Yea Big & Kid Static " Bots ": I haven't heard much from this duo in a bit, but its good to know they were in the lab churning out proper product. Check out their ode to one of the more classic characters in video game history, Mega Man. Their forthcoming album, The Future's Looking Grim , features " 11 bangy glitchers, full of cacophonous synths, syllabic tumbling and enough boom-bap and flow for even the most staunch heads ". This LP will drop digitally on April Fool's Day on [...]

Every Sunday in January, Chicago radio station Q101 dropped a NEW Hood Vs Chicago track during their Local 101 program. Big up to Jaime and Chris from the station for approaching us about this project, it was definitely fun to do some more Chi City tracks. 1. The Prairie Cartel - Cracktown RMX (feat. Qualo) 2. Bot Control (Yea Big + Kid Static vs Hey Champ) 3. Who Gets A Tear In Your Eye (Pugs Atomz vs Pretty Good Dance Moves) 4. [...]

Gentleman Auction House can't seem to catch a break in Columbus. In June, the last time the St. Louis band came through, only a tiny handful of folks came out to the High Five. Last Thursday more people showed up at the same venue, but this time the band was plagued by sound problems all night. Lead singer Eric Enger attempted to lead the seven-piece through "ABCDEFGraveyard," a stomper of a tune the band likes to start off with, but Enger's mic was cutting in and out throughout the song, so they had to stop and let [...]

/// The Decemberists have announced plans to release a series of singles titled Always a Bridesmaid: A Singles Series , with the first installment hitting the stores on October 14th. The last of the series will be available on December 2nd. Sounds like a good Christmas/Holiday gift to me. [Thanks, NME ] /// Jack White has collaborated with Alicia Keys for the recent theme of the new James Bond film, "Another Way to Die." [Thanks, Aversion [...]

Take a look at the two men above. I wouldn't trust them with operating on my pancreas, but damn they spin some hot hip hop. Their names are Yea Big and Kid Static , and they're teamed up to release a disc creatively named Yea Big + Kid Static , which they released at the end of last month. Individually they both front impressive resumes. Put them together and you have mayhem. The dynamic duo describes their own music as "retro futuristic comic book hip hop." Do they award [...]
