"Year of the Tiger," the latest installment of Fucked Up's ongoing Chinese Zodiac series, is on the player in my little room, and I'm over a lyrics sheet, flashlight in my left hand, between index finger and thumb, because it's dark in here. What time is it? It doesn't matter. It's weird to consider punk rock in an individualistic setting, I think. And anyone that has seen Fucked Up live can support the claim that this music is, and probably always will be, no matter where its narrative goes, a largely communal project. Usually we're in crowds. [...]

Fucked Up , the Toronto based punk outfit, sure have a taste for the epic. Their last album, David Comes to Life , was an amazingly crafted, sweeping opus of sound and depth (and one I really loved). "Year of the Tiger" is built from the same stuff. A 15 minute punk-rock opera built on sweeping guitars, passionate vocals, and ambition. "Year of the Tiger" is the fifth single, in as many years, to be released as a part of the bands Chinese Zodiac series, a sort of Fucked Up annual tradition. Whether you like [...]
Fucked Up Year of the Tiger Matador Records 06 February 2012 by Alex Andrews Given that their last commitment to tape was an 82-minute 'rock opera', chronicling the haphazard love life of an English factory worker, you could be forgiven for thinking that Fucked Up had exhausted all channels for experimentation. You'd be wrong, of course, [...]

Fucked Up has launched a stream of their new Chinese New Year themed single, Year of the Tiger [12-inch] . The Toronto band has been releasing 12-inch singles coinciding with the lunar new year since 2006. Year Of The Tiger represents the latest entry in the series and includes guest vocalists including director Jim Jarmusch, Montreal punk vocalist Annie-Claude Deschênes and Canadian electronic outfit Austra. The band had begun streaming the other five singles late last month.
Filed under: News , New Music Daniel Boud Well, it's official. Nobody can accuse Toronto's F---ed Up of being lazy. Today (Feb. 7) the Canadian punks released 'Year of the Tiger,' the fifth installment in their series of Chinese Zodiac singles via Matador . The song features a supporting cast of indie film godfather Jim Jarmusch , Austra , as well as Annie-Claude Deschênes of Duchess Says, and [...]
Fucked Up siguen muy activos.

By Bill Pearis One could argue (and we did, in our story on the band in the January-February issue!) that Fucked Up's rock opera David Comes to Life was uniquely resonant upon its June release because of the emotional synchronicity between an album that spilled forth with such an appropriately chaotic narrative and a year in which tumultuous disarray became the norm. But good lord, David Comes to Life could've been sung in backwards Tagalog and it still would've made perfect sense in 2011. That's the [...]

Check out a music video and lots of news from Toronto's favorite hardcore band.

St. Vincent drops the stylistically dramatic video for my favorite cut off of Strange Mercy . Watch the always stunning Annie Clark as she swaggers through a gorgeously scenic performance. MP3 // YEAR OF THE TIGER
Enduring roster champion 4AD has done well to create a strong brand with high production standards out of their in-house live video series. In a world of meaningless promotional content, these 4AD Sessions are generally considered, visually unique, stylish affairs. Today the Sessions meet their match in St. Vincent, who is herself all of those things in addition to wielding the accomplished LP Strange Mercy and, here, its swagger-fueled/grooved-out closer, "Year Of The Tiger." I'm making a rough count of this being a five-camera shoot which is $$$ not including the band's debonair hair/wardrobe [...]

St. Vincent and her band perform Year Of The Tiger , the closing track off Strange Mercy , in a very stylish 4AD Session. "When I was young, coach called me the tiger…"
St. Vincent - Year Of the Tiger (Studio Brussel session)

This year's Suit the Snoot program featured a tiger suit. My niece was delighted to model it at her 4-year old birthday party. She was so enthusiastic, in fact, that she did a fanciful jig on the picnic bench! Eventually the authorities had to put her down with blow darts.

On August 25, St. Vincent performed for a special event at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art . According to Consequence of Sound , this was the band's first live performance since the announcement of their new, forthcoming album, Strange Mercy , to be released on September 13 in the U.S. and Sept. 12 in the UK through 4AD . Along with playing the already released "Surgeon", St. Vincent played three unheard tracks from the new album: "Cheerleader", "Year of the Tiger" and "Champagne Year". Check out the videos of [...]
