Here's an album I somehow missed a few weeks ago (not that surprising really, I have a habit of dropping out of it all) from 2007/8 faves Yeasayer . Back with what can only be described as a darker and dubbier sound. Demonstrated by the lolloping beat in 'Longevity' to the sinster calypso-esq 'Henrietta'. Don't panic though there are the odd flashings of 'Ambling Alp' or 'Madder Red' it's just hidden under a brooding layer of synths and beats. This August, Alt-J visited New York City for only the second time in their young careers, and played sold out shows at both Mercury Lounge and Glasslands. And now, just one month later, they're back and already sold out Bowery Ballroom (but seriously, these guys are blowing up - they've shot up to 70,000 Facebook "likes" in under a year). Fragrant World finds Brooklyn based outfit Yeasayer continuing the kind of odd pop antics displayed by their previous outings, particularly their sophomore album Odd Blood . Although slightly less crisp and consistent than their last record, there's certainly enough present to declare Yeasayer as a band who deserves your attention.
