I posted about Yellow Ostrich's upcoming EP "Ghost" a while back, but this is our first listen to it. The title track is a bit different than what we've come to expect from Yellow Ostrich. It's a little sexier and less of a dynamic pop take than their past two albums. Maybe they're headed into [...]

Brooklyn Indie Pop band Yellow Ostrich are, evidentially, less afraid of ghosts and more bemused by them, if the sonic tone on their latest single is anything to go by. “Ghost” is a relaxed indie dream, perhaps a bit too much so. Music Player: [...]

The last time we posted about Yellow Ostrich they completely blew us away with their psychedelic, ever-building rocker "The Shakedown." The song "Ghost" from their upcoming EP, and which premiered at the always fantastic Stereogum , sees the band cultivating a completely different sort of sound. Gone are the distorted guitars and crash cymbals; that hard-nosed indie rock vibe. "Ghost" is a laid-back step into a world of subdued indie-pop. Layered vocals, and humming, sustained guitar parts drift throughout the song, as random percussive bits play in the background. It feels incredibly sparse compared to previous efforts. It's [...]
Today's music is based on a true story. Enjoy. : Gypsy And The Cat - Bloom : Here's a duo that's based out of Melbourne. They've got a fairly trendy retro pop sound, but I like this track a lot, and I'm anxious to hear more from them. The Late Blue is the name of their new LP, and it's expected out early next year. : Yellow Ostrich - Ghost : I love this band so much that I liked this song before I even took the time to listen [...]
![[Indie Rock] Yellow Ostrich – Ghost](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4551172_lg.jpg)
Brooklyn group Yellow Ostrich have an intimate appeal to their brand of indie rock. It's captivating without being loud and noisy, and smart without the snark and complexities. The percussion's always a focal point and, like a beating heart, it keeps their songs pulsing, moving forward. Though this new song "Ghost" has frontman Alex Schaaf singing with a hint of sadness, his vocals always seem to come off more inviting than depressing or distant — you actually feel closer to him. If you've ever seen them live (and you should!), you'll notice that this [...]

"That's y!" says Snoop Dogg... Did Snoop Dogg talk much politics at his Wellmont Theater show last week ? That picture above, no not the cats, is his Tweeted list of reasons for voting for Obama, and for not voting Romney . Kanye West has much less to say, for now. All his amazing tweets have been deleted except for one new one that says "BE BACK SOON". [...]

Yellow Ostrich - "Ghost" Yellow Ostrich will be releasing a new EP later this month. Source: Stereogum

Yellow Ostrich 's 2011 album The Mistress caught my attention because of standout tracks like "WHALE" and "I Think U Are The Ghost", and their follow-up Strange Land officially locked them in as one of my favorite up-and-coming artists. In the year between those two releases, it was apparent the band and their songwriting had matured, with tracks such as "Daughter" and "Marathon Runner" delving deeper and experimenting more sonically than I thought capable. Yellow Ostrich has taken that maturation and gone one step further with "Ghost," the [...]

Photo Credit: Outside Lands For a festival that tries to be all things for all people, Outside Lands comes pretty close to hitting the mark. Sure, the food is overpriced and for the most part sub-par (although Wine Lands was a very good time), and I’m not entirely sure who found the time to check out the comedy shows, but when it comes to music (which was the point after all), this was definitely a line-up that delivered. Number of Attendees: [...]
