The new video for Yellow Ostrich 's song "The Shakedown," from their sophomore LP Strange Land , premiered yesterday on NYLON , and it sees the band going low budget. Directed by the band themselves, this is what lead singer/guitarist Alex Schaaf had to say: " We made this video ourselves in Michael's basement. With no budget and minimal gear, we explored the beauty of darkness. The white light represents the past, and the black light represents the future. Should I stay or should I go?" Watch it above. When Yellow Ostrich 's video for "The Shakedown" starts with somber faces and black and white film it seemed like a recipe for boring. Yellow Ostrich tour dates: 6/16 - Plush - St. Louis, MO 6/17 - Headliners Music Hall - Louisville, KY 6/19 - The Orange Peel - Asheville, NC 6/20 - The National - Richmond, VA [...]
Yellow Ostrich are without a doubt one of the more original indie rock groups in the game right now. Their new video for “The Shakedown” furthers helps my point. While the song starts off a sweet vocal driven ballad, the song evolves into an all out rock show appropriate time, full of choppy guitars. The band don their best glow in the dark gear to help show off their slightly sinister side. Pick up their sophomore record, Strange Land , out now . Yellow Ostrich - “The Shakedown”
Here's a stonker of a tune from New York-based experimental rock three-piece Yellow Ostrich : The Shakedown is taken from their second album Strange Land , which was released on 6th March. Strange Land (like their 2010 debut, The Mistress ) and The Shakedown is described by singer-guitarist Alex Schaff as a song "about imaginary people" [...]

The pandemonium and mass confusion that accompanies the opening of a music festival, let alone one such as Sasquatch Music Festival where you park in a semi-organized fashion in random fields next to tents and cows, is akin to very few other experiences in a lifetime. The herding, the terror in the eyes of lost souls, the cattle brands... Well, there might as well be cattle brands because, let's face it, as much as we all enjoy a multitude of bands playing incredible music in one of the world's most stunning outdoor venues, organizing ourselves on a mass scale just [...]

Inching closer and closer to opening time, the anticipation builds and excitement fills the air. It's no secret that Sasquatch! is a massive communal experience, but every year, the same joy of sharing those ecstatic feelings [...]

It's a holiday celebrated by few, but those few treat it like Christmas morning. In fact, some might consider it better than Christmas morning: Record Store Day. Since its inception in 2007, countless vinyl enthusiasts have woken up - on Saturday morning, no less - to patrol the streets in their pajamas, eventually taking up real estate outside their favorite record store, all in the hopes that they'll snag priceless soon-to-be artifacts that, more or less, give them bragging rights. It's relentless, it's addicting, but it's pastime. Consequence of Sound looks forward to [...]
