Last fall my mate and I were booked to play THE HARVEST MOON FESTIVAL and I was at a loss for electronic-based material a bunch of hippies would dance to. I can't remember where or how, but I came across LANCE HERBSTRONG a few days before the gig and put three of their tunes in my aresenal. Since then, they've released their first long player and they're about to let another loose. Here's the first single from the trio's upcoming album. You should know however, "many plants have been [...]

Tweet This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before [...]
When I reviewed Keep Shelly in Athens back in January, I was struck by how completely unique they are. "Yellow Man" follows in those snowy January footsteps, but doesn't quite rise to the greatness of their track, "Running Out of You." Facebook: Facebook [...]
As a rule, I generally avoid the vast amount of chillwave and washy electro "jams" that flood the internet, but Keep Shelly in Athens just keep on making themselves an exception. It might be because they're Greek, or it might be because they're awesome, but the duo have had me fairly enchanted with pretty much...

Greek duo Keep Shelley In Athens are pretty dope, lets be frank. As we've said before , they're mix of balearic / chillwave / dream-pop is certainly something to write home about. Read More >>

GorillaVsBear just posted the premiere of the [...]
Trilling woodwind, stuttering samples of some bloke something we can't quite make out and comforting synths - hi there Keep Shelly In Athens, it sure is nice to see you again. 'Yellow Man', a bleary-eyed stumble through the mysterious duo's utopia of azure seas and golden sands, is taken from the forthcoming tape release on Sixteen Tambourines in the US and continues the group's love of Balearic disco pop with a downhearted twist. Keep Shelly in Athens - Yellow Man by Sixteen [...]

Earlier this week saw The Trinidad and Tobago carnival kick off, sort of like The Notting Hill carnival but with less Swedes wearing novelty Rasta hats. If you can't wait til August for your annual daggering / rum / arrest for massive quantities of cocaine in Miami session then tune into 1xtra, it's a Dancehall takeover today.

Here's a fun stocking stuffer. I recently bought Super Cat's great early LP, Si Boops Deh! (Techniques, 1986--not to be confused with the lesser Boops! ), which features a wonderful cartoon rendition of Cat passing out money to all of his gal friends on the back cover ("boops" being Jamaican slang for "sugar daddy"). The artwork was signed "Limonious", and when I Googled the name I found The Wilfred Limonious Archive , which is a wonderful collection of the 100+ album covers designed by Limonious that so mark the style of '80s dancehall records. On the [...]

You'd have to be high not to figure out where Lance Herbstrong came up with with their moniker. The American reggae crew love both bikes and weed - the second track were posting sounds like a doped-up reggae version of Moby, high as a kite of course, with some dreds and a chillum. He has just sent over what can only be a smokers delight - three remixes some classic reggae tracks, not sure what they are, but they do sound cool. So roll-up, relax and get high. Musical of course. Lance Herbstrong are now performing [...]

By Sweet Sound of Sunrise When I think of world music, I generally think of songs sung in different languages, often over melodies strange to inexperienced ears. But this isn't the case this week. In fact, does this count as cheating? This week's pick comes from Jamaica, home to its own distinct musical genres and legends like Bob Marley. However, this isn't about him, or even reggae, which is arguably the most popular Jamaican genre on an international level. This is about [...]
Theodor C. Introducing " Ost & Kjex " " Ost & Kjex "are not like the newest hotshots on the electronic scene, so I won't bore you with their discography, go read a book instead. Let me instead introduce you to their upcoming album "Cajun Lunch": Using funky house-beats, blues/dub/Jazz piano, cheesy vocals, and saw (wtf), "Cajun Lunch" turns out to be a perfect combination between radio-potential and hipster-material. Organic, surprising and catchy as fuck! Ost & Kjex have managed to produce/write the shit out of this house-release, and [...]
