What is that? Is it a play on the name of that mountain range in Switzerland? Is it literally something to do with the anatomy of Swiss people? Is it a new euphemism from those pesky teenagers that we're no longer privy to? Are they linking that most sensuous, kissable part of every human being and linking with it that most neutral of European countries? It makes no sense to us. Are we missing the joke here? It's hard not to consider their choice of band name, particularly when it sounds so, well, downright silly. We would love to state [...]
Lightwaves just happens to be the solo project of Jan Rosenfeld, front-man of the awesome Boston Indie-Electropoppers Yes Giantess , getting his Electro Disco groove on. His first track ‘Working All Day’ is an amalgamation of Electro styles, mixing up a bit of Robo Disco, a bit of French Touch, a bit of ElectroPop into a happy summer hit. Jan’s got a strong ear for how to rock the dancefloor and ‘Working All Day’ dips and peaks just where it’s supposed to, carrying you along with the cut-up vocoder vocals. [...]

Sometimes a band becomes successful and what follows is a plethora of copyists that spill out from it's edges, all sounding like the genetic descendants of the original act. In days gone by it would have quickly become a scene, NME Magazine would have wet their underwear with over-excitement and kids would be rushing to join the scene. Sadly, in 2011 we no longer seem to see this same tribal adoption, as the music-loving public are more happy to skip between genres never allowing one band, or one set of similar bands, to dominate. This leaves music journalism [...]

Now it’s time for, probably, my favourite list. The meeting of two talents, when it works, is an amazing thing. This was also, probably, the easiest of the lists to compile. Most of our favourite tunes this year have been reMixes. Our top slot was always a no-brainier, that track has a breakdown and build that still gives me goosebumps after the 300th listen. It’s our favourite song of the year, the award goes to… electronic rumors’ best reMix: 2011 01: Ellie Goulding [...]

Wow. It's been a while since I dropped my last mixtape. It's seems like forever ago that we were saying goodbye to Summer , since now all I can think about are my freezing cold toesies. Enter the All Things Go Workout Mixtape Disc 2; here to get rid of your post-Thanksgiving pudge and complement the first edition which you hopefully have been pumping since June. This second installment was crafted back in July, but I've been so busy with the new site and school and whatnot that I never got around to posting it. No more [...]

Did someone say remixes!?!? Oh, no, that was just the sound of my sweat hitting the laptop, which along with the clackity of the keyboard, sounded like morse code for "roundup." Shit, I may be losing it in this heat... For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post! ♫ Sleigh Bells - A/B Machines (French Horn Rebellion Remix) / I get a little bummed out every time I hear this but that is only cause French Horn Rebellion [...]

I know I'm about, oh, a year and a half late to the U.S. Royalty party, but that's not going to stop me from posting about a song that I literally cannot get out of my head. I downloaded "Keep it Cool" around the time that it was making it's rounds on all the taste makers, but for some reason it just sat in my iTunes to rot. I hit up shuffle a few weeks back, and lo and behold, the Bo Flex (Yes Giantess) remix of "Keep it Cool" serenaded my ear drums, at which point I [...]
FELIX AND VOLCANO We think we can confidently state that most of the emails music bloggers receive are utter rubbish. We've often considered the easy way out - to cull them all in big batches. On many occasions our fingers have hovered over the delete button, but what stops us is that one faith-restoring email out of a hundred, with a bounty contained within it, that reminds you precisely why you got into blogging in the first place. In truth, emails aren't actually a music bloggers best source for discovering music, it's actually by busily interacting [...]

Crush is that rad ass bad ass monthly party showcasing “Dance Bands We Love” – bands whose music makes us feel like we’re bathing in champagne and skipping through meadows. They don’t make us dance like say, the cabbage patch or running man, but they move us all the same. Now, with the L Magazine's Northside Festival approaching next week, the Crushers are getting in on the action. [...]

Last Monday I finally saw La Roux at my least favorite venue in town, Terminal Five. It was like old times, getting to the show before doors opened to get up close and personal with Elly Jackson (except for the fact that the venue gates you away from the stage and you can't actually get up close and personal with anyone besides the other sweaty folks in the crowd). Thankfully everyone in the crowd was looking to have a good time, dancing through all the upbeat songs and giving Elly full attention when she pulled out her acoustic [...]

(photo by Annabel Staff) Two arms! Two arms! The Crush Fest is coming! And so, with an alarm call like the redcoats arrival on the shores for battle (but not with nearly as much patriotic or military implications), Jen Lyon and Ruth Heronemus, the two lovely women behind the third-Thursday-a-month party known as Crush are bringing together later on this month a great, two-room affair at Brooklyn's Public Assembly venue. The acts they've booked (with more on the way) give us zero pause or delay for penning it into the schedule as [...]
