Tweet When I was 17 I didn't own a mobile phone. I had a friend who had a massive Nokia (that's not a euphemism) but only his mum ever called it. When I was 17 I also didn't have an email address, they seemed mysterious and pointless, like owning a Giraffe, it would probably be cool but what would you do with it? When I was 17 one thing I did have was a band, oh yes, I was in a band. Wow. The thing is... [...]

Back in 2008 prog-rock legends YES parted ways with singer Jon Anderson rather than wait for their lead vocalist to recover from acute respiratory failure and signed YES tribute band singer Benoit David to take Anderson's place. Today, history has repeated itself as YES announced Jon Davidson, who spent time fronting YES tribute act Roundabout, will replace an ailing David as lead vocalist for the band's upcoming dates in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Indonesia and Hawaii. I don't know where this originates from, but I'm glad Kill Rock Stars pointed this out on Twitter . Update: Looks like it comes from the Mr. T Daydreams tumblr. Because of course it does.

One of the challenges in writing a review of a long-running band's "greatest hits" album is that the band (most often) has an established and well-known sound so the reviewer adds little value. I feel like I'm in that quandary with the latest live album from Yes, In the Present: Live from Lyon , as Yes has already released over a dozen live albums, CDs and DVDs and the set list on this new disc is predominately comprised of Yes' greatest hits. One could argue that this is the first live album with vocalist Benoit David but, [...]
Live Yes revisits what made them pioneers all those years ago.

Holy is a FUCKING AWESOME shouty screamy hardcore punk from Milano, Italy. Lashings, of tough old-school styles meets Level Plane records screamo vocals. Short, fast, loud - 8 furious songs recorded pretty much over the course of a few days in a hot rehearsal studio in Italy. Their self titled ep is coming out January 23rd via the Berlin / Italian label, Hell, Yes . Quite a strange choice to for a label. You will recognize Hell yes via their Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles releases. They've got a predominantly chillwave-y / garage roster, quite the [...]
Girls who can work experimental music and loop you into their dreamworld are hypnotizing. Right away, one band that comes from the top of my head is Sleep ∞ Over . If you combine sounds of Cocteau Twins and ex members of Sleep ∞ Over, the coalition makes Boy Friend . Boy Friend is a new duo formed by best friends Christa Palazzolo and Sarah Brown. They have a debut album titled Egyptian Wrinkle on February 6th 2012 via Hell, Yes! .The album was recorded in a [...]

Scucci Manucci EP By Stef Siepel The weekly froth! A weekly take on six tracks, most of which have recently popped up somewhere in the blogosphere. Bit of a mixed bag with a slight leaning towards house, disco, and remixes, but generally just anything that for some reason tickled the writer's fancy. Track of the week: 'That's the Truth' by Casino Times On a Scucci Manucci EP this is a track called 'That's the Truth' by Casino Times . [...]

Yes - Live on Air documents the band on the last stop of the 90125 tour and this show was recorded at Estadio C. A. Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 1, 1985. Ignore all the track lists for this disc that are posted on the internet as they list the complete set list for the 2+ hour show and this disc runs exactly 60 minutes. Sadly, even the track list on the package is wrong. Here is what is on this disc: - "Leave It" (4:18) - [...]
Filed under: Exclusive , The Hit List YouTube.com There are plenty of scary music videos out there, but many of them are from artists you'd expect to go the horror route: Marilyn Manson , Nine Inch Nails , Tool , etc. But there are also many videos that are even more unsettling and off-putting, simply because it's unexpected. Whether it's possessed children starring in the clip of an '80s ballad, pop [...]

I am a huge fan of Jon Anderson and the prog-rock juggernaut, Yes . And even though Yes replaced him with a Yes tribute band singer a few years back, Jon will always be the heart and soul of Yes, in my eyes (and especially my ears). Jon celebrates his 67th birthday today, so go ahead and crank up some good Yes music today in his honor. Or crank up the below YouTube of the Kanye West-sampled original "In High Places" by Jon Anderson and Mike Oldfield. [...]

There is something magical about this time of year. It's hard to put my finger on it but the changing colors, the crispness in the air, and the mood of the people all combine wonderfully for me in a near perfect, romantic and quite comforting melange. Essential to all of this, of course, is great music. Many of my favorite bands have released new music this fall (reviews coming soon!) but it's going to be a while before I decide if any of their albums are Classic Fall Records. What makes a Classic Fall [...]
