Considering the collaboration that is the Monsters of Folk did get its start on the road , it only seems appropriate that the trio of M. Ward, Jim "Yim" James "Yames", Mike Mogis, and the artist formerly known as Bright Eyes , Mr. Conor Oberst, has announced plans for a fall tour in support of its self-titled debut . Beginning October 13th, the Monsters will embark on a 17-date North American tour in Vancouver, British Columbia. Monsters of Folk, the collaboration between Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket's Jim James and singer/songwriter M.Ward will be releasing their first album, self-titled, on September 22nd. I've been anxiously waiting for another supergroup since the Traveling Wilburys...and of course, Damn Yankees. The band has made a track called "Say Please" available for free at their website . All you have to do is type "please" into the little form. It is the magic word, after all. Monsters of Folk - Say Please

Jim James singing sawdust and straw acoustic covers of ancient George Harrison songs likely appeals to the strictly f am members only demographic. But say you're a My Morning Jackethead, searching to ease your way into warm Tuesday morning like an old man journeying from bed to rocking chair, few options come more mild or pleasant. One of the more overlooked aspects about James is his endearingly absurd goofiness-from Oregon Trail New Year's Eves, to rocking Moon Boots on-stage, to baffling decisions to turn "J's" into "Y's." The Yim Yames project falls under that category. He's too wise to [...]
Yim Yames aka Jim James is releasing an EP called "Tribute To," a six track tribute to George Harrison, on Aug. 4. The EP does contain some of George's most well-known moments including My Sweet Lord. Now, if Yim Yames sounds familiar it is because you know him as the lead singer for My [...]

Melissa Hesse Seeing as how Minneapolis' Now, Now Every Children is just a two-piece, trying to distill the appeal of their debut Cars down to even simpler components might seem like folly but it's not only possible, it's easy - it's Cacie Dalager's voice. Sure, you could say that the lead singer's voice is the most obvious make or break thing for any pop band, but for NNEC, it's much more than that. It's not an especially powerful instrument, at least as far as strength and range [...]
Yeah, this EP is good because you can tell that My Morning Jacket 's Jim James (a.k.a. Yim Yames here) genuinely cares about the music and legacy of George Harrison . That's a given. But this collection of covers also has me reeling because it's a new batch of songs where James belts out some It Still Moves -era vocals - complete with the jangle and reverb that made him famous. Granted, that's because it was recorded in 2001. But I'll take what I can get. While [...]
Monsters of Folk ?? Once again, the part of my brain that processes finding out about awesome shit just exploded into a fiery orgasmic wetness at the news that Conor Oberst, M. Ward, and Yim Yames (Jim James from My Morning Jacket) are forming a supergroup. When the hell did this happen? There's a proper fifteen-song LP releasing on September 22nd, but for now you can listen to the album's first single called "Say Please" right here: [MP3] Monsters of Folk - Say Please The Yames / [...]
Of all the recent "supergroups" to have formed in recent months, Monsters of Folk is easily the biggest... and as we learned today, most likely to live up to the hype. On September 22nd, Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Jim "Yim" James "Yames", and Mike Mogis will finally put their five-year collaboration to record when they unveil Monsters of Folk . Today, the group gave its first official taste of what is to come with the release of a song entitled "Say Please". As you'll hear, Oberst and Ward handle most of [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive With his band My Morning Jacket on hiatus, frontman Jim James is focusing much of his immediate attention on the all-star Monsters of Folk project. But before that album drops and they take the show on the road, James is offering up a left-fielder from his archives: a six-song EP of solo, acoustic George Harrison covers. The album, entitled 'Tribute To,' will be released under the name Yim Yames (the Y's are intentional but we're [...]

From the new EP of George Harrison/Beatles covers by My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James (under the clever, throw-them-off-the-scent moniker of Yim Yames), this song feels like a much -needed salve on my rawness today: All Things Must Pass (George Harrison cover) - Yim Yames Sometimes I am glad I don't know the fancy tricks of studio recording, and how they make Jim's voice sound like it is coming to me from somewhere outside time, like [...]

There've been a couple of things going down in the blogoshpere that have gotten under my skin this week. I write for a music blog, so it affects me directly when other people who write for other music blogs do stupid shit. Bad apple and all that. We try really hard here to do the right thing. That's kind of a broad brushstroke, so let's break it down a bit: We don't write negative reviews. You know this. Every once in a while, we'll get a little bit prickly about the opener at [...]

You mean Yim Yames is actually Jim James ? From My Morning Yacket? Surely you yest. Recorded yust ... ahem ... just days after George Harrison passed away in 2001, Tribute To is finally here. James covered six songs for the EP, which is available for download on his Web site and will hit music stores (what are those again?) on Aug. 4. James' versions sound like ... well, like Yim Yames covering George Harrison. Though I do really like his version of "My Sweet [...]

I have never been a fan of My Morning Jacket, but on the two occasions that I have been exposed to the solo work of front man Jim James (or Yim Yames as he appears in his latest alias) I have been pleasantly surprised. The first time I sat up and took notice was on the Soundtrack to the Dylan "biopic" 'I'm Not There' where James sings "Goin' To Acapulco" accompanied by Calexico, which for me was one of the highlights of a great collection. The second is 'Tribute To', an EP of George Harrison covers. Recorded in [...]
Yim Yames - My Sweet Lord Originally recorded when George Harrison passed away in 2001, this beautiful take on the All Things Must Pass track is part of a six-song EP covering the work of the former Beatle. Just as the My Morning Jacket frontman revitalised Bob Dylan's Going to Acapulco for the I'm Not There soundtrack, these renditions are paired back but powerful. You can listen, download and pre-order Tribute To over yimyames.com , with a portion of the proceeds going to Woodstock Animal Farm Sanctuary. [...]

Last week I was working on an acoustic-based folk playlist for my show on SIRIUS/XM. Halfway through I wound up scrapping it as my mood changed, and if music is anything it is mood. The second track, following The Tallest Man Alive, was Jim James' cover of the Beatles "Long, Long, Long" which was just [...]
