Foot Village is getting ready to roll out a new 73 on How To Fight Records in late October. The drum 'n' shout band have designed the Lovers With Iraqis/Totally Tween 73 as "a guidebook for the forthcoming apocalypse," with a song of hope and a song of doom. Here is the song of hope. The message is simple: "the most important thing to remember is that life should be about having fun and sharing love with all those around you." Listen. Downloadable: Lovers With Iraqis (mp3) Oh, [...]
Enlighten your self with some music. It's another stellar week of shows in Atlanta
Some really great bands are set to play the Mountain Man Festival in Saratoga, NY this summer, but the organizers need your help! You can donate, buy a poster, buy your ticket in advance, or sign up to host a booth. You can find the lineup and all the "pledging" options here . Help make this happen!!!!! Related posts: The Flaming Lips to perform Dark Side of the Moon at Bonnaroo The Bonnaroo lineup is still a week away from being... [...]

I was reading BrooklynVegan , and their post about a potentially new festival caught my attention. Mountrain Man Fest. It would take place at Saratoga Springs on July 24th. The artists that they have lined up are Islands, Health, Phantogram, Real Estate, Eternal Summers, Cults, Woods, Summer Camp, MemoryHouse, Family Portrait, and Yip Yip. Basically, all blog favorites. Now, I did say that this only has the "potential" to happen. Why? Well, it isn't...funded yet. The people behind it are trying to raise money via a Kickstarter Page with a goal of a whopping $65,000 [...]
Thus far, we've seen a few artists attempt to utilize the donation based website Kickstarter.com to fund the release of a new album . But the Mountain Man Festival is taking it going one step further, as it is now asking the music community to help fund an entire music festival. The story goes something like this, per the festival's Kickstarter page : "Shane & Gabe have a dream. A dream to host the raddest festival that ever existed (enter Mountain Man Fest) And certainly the first of [...]

Honeyhander - "Porcelain Veneers" MP3/FREE download The Mae Shi - "Born for a Short Time" MP3/FREE download This probably looks weird; you're thinking I'm going to somehow profit from posting a blog about a sale put on by a great independent record label. But I'm not; I'm actually telling y'all about this because it's a fantastic opportunity to get some Important vinyl (or CDs, I GUESS) at fractious prices. Plus, I'm SICK TO DEATH of watching record stores close and labels fold. It's time to support the people [...]

machinedrum - "all apologies" (download) From the brand new, limited edition 7" compilation Nerdvana , released by Mental Monkey Records . Nerdvana features indie electronic acts trying their hand at their favorite Nirvana tracks. Here, Travis Stewart (better known as Machinedrum ) tries his hand at "All Apologies", resulting in a tweaked out, beautiful mess. Machinedrum releases stuff on Merck Records, as well as his own Normrex label, and can be seen out and about doing shows with the likes [...]

Local LA band, Collisions ' songs are colliding with my eardrums and I like it! Ok, enough of that terrible wordplay and on to the facts. Collisions are good, damn good. They bring together atmospheric guitars and keyboards with strangely danceable drumbeats. They just signed to S.A.F Records, home to Yip Yip and the Mae Shi, so expect something in the way of a record soon. They play Feb 18 at the Scene in Glendale so check them out if you're in the area and over 21. More shows to come? I've included a lovely little ditty for your [...]
Love More (<3) Xiu Xiu - Women as Lovers Gosh, what a peculiar band. The album is nothing like their live set. When I saw them live I would have to say I'd compare it to what getting punched in the face while having rabbits scream in your ear. It's not that it's bad, by any stretch of the mind, it's just really intense. The album has the same songs, but not with the same intensity. In true Xiu Xiu fashion, the songs are [...]

From the files of the genius, fucked, and bizarre, we bring you Yip-Yip . Wanna scare the hell out of your parents? Forget GG Allin, Yip-Yip is truly terrifying. Never mind appearance, it's their music that's so disturbing. Turn it up and it shouldn't take long for all the nice people in your neighborhood to start giving you fishy looks and whispering words like "methamphetamine", "schizophrenia", and "soiled underpants". Yes, Yip-Yip is weird, we're not sure why, and that's okay with us. Formed in 2001 by two unusual kids from [...]

CMJ is going on strong, so that means plenty of shows heading towards NYC or on their way back. Either way, more for us in the IA region. Like always, Thursday has plenty to see. Forget the British Invasion of the '60s. The 2000s are having a Swedish invasion. Tonight and tomorrow, you can catch three of the best singer-songwriters Sweden has to offer. Ane Brun and Tobias Froberg are joined by former native Theresa Andersson , now calling New [...]

I imagine dancing to this stuff in a warehouse somewhere with a bunch of other sweaty hipsters could be immensely fun.
Forget everything you know about the expansive collection of experimental music available today. There are things out of this world that live among us. Things that dare not be explained. These apparitions, if we can call them that, are sudden and daring. They are pinch hitters to our minds, ogling us listeners with instrumentation that [...]
