by maximillion I had an enjoyable chat with I'm From Barcelona front man Emanuel Lundgren yesterday. While we spoke of magic and children's programming, we focused on the noticeable change-in-tone of the band's new release. Who Killed Harry Houdini is the band's expressive new record which has been met with mixed reactions. Having taken years to create, it's the most accurate reflection of Lundgren's musical inclinations combined with the finest elements of the I'm From Barcelona experiment. I personally consider it a [...]
Most of this post is likely super old, but I've been out of the country for 2 weeks and I've got a lot of catching up to do. Ben Kweller's 'How Ya Lookin Southbound Comein' ep is out now and can be bought (here). It's a "trucking-themed" ep to hold us over until his country album 'Changing Horses' comes out the first part of next year. I normally discredit artists who model their career after Jessica Simpson's, but the new country stuff isn't half bad (check out some of it on Ben's Myspace page ). [...]
Featured: PUNCHLINE "The Hit" ANNUALS "Confessor" JIMMY EAT WORLD "Beautiful Day (Yo Gabba Gabba)" Today's On The Blog Reel features men in drag, men drawn as storybook characters, and men riding through clouds on puppies. Excited yet? First we bring you Pittsburgh pop-punkers Punchline (say that three times fast) and their raucous new video for their hit single, appropriately titled "The Hit." The video follows the band living out their 1990s cliche-sitcom fantasies, starring in their own show, [...]

This site has sung the praises of the Nick Jr. tv show Yo! Gabba! Gabba! before. Mainly because the kids show has an edge to it that isn't often found with all children's television. One of the best examples of this are the bands that have done guest appearances on the show ( Shiny Toy Guns and The Shins to name a few). Well we can now add Jimmy Eat World to that list. The band performs an original track "Beautiful Day" for the show. And [...]
UK sensations the Ting Tings covered Altered Images' "Happy Birthday" on Yo Gabba Gabba! yesterday on the show's second season premiere. Embedded video seems impossible to find for the moment, so go to Jezebel and watch a clip . The song is on the f orthcoming Yo Gabba Gabba full-length CD, which is out in mid-October and also features Tahiti 80, the Salteens, Aquabats and all of the lovably bizarre songs from the TV show. Here's Altered Images' original song and a couple of more after the jump, because [...]

I couldn't find a video of The Ting Tings performing on the season premiere of the Nick Jr. cool-for-kids-but-cooler-for-a dults show Yo Gabba Gabba . But since they were just the first (and worst) of the bands currently listed to appear in season two, I don't care about missing this performance as much. Other bands confirmed are Cornelius , The Shins , The Roots , MGMT and Mates of State .

If it weren't for having a 3-year old, I might have never have known the glory that is Yo Gabba Gabba . Part Pee-wee's Playhouse , part The Banana Splits , the toddler series counts as many parents as fans as kids, thanks to performances from the likes of The Shins , and regular slots from rapper Biz Markie and Devo 's Mark Mothersbaugh . This week, the Emmy winning Nick Jr. series is back for a second season, [...]

I was just talking about YGG the other day here and wouldn't you know, they've released the Ting Ting's appearance for Season 2! Here they are covering "Happy Birthday" made famous by the 80's Scottish band, Altered Images . Enjoy! Here's the original version too.

The Ting Tings sing "Happy Birthday" on Yo Gabba Gabba While my son enjoyed a brief fascination with Season 1 of Yo Gabba Gabba , that honeymoon seems to be over now that Season 2 is about to begin. I might have to start recording it again anyway because the musical lineup for the new season looks quite impressive, here are some of the special guests that will be partying with DJ Lance Rock and the crew: [...]

For the show's season premiere... The duo tackled Altered Images' 'Happy Birthday'. Enjoy a snippet of the cover at EW . Earlier in the week, TTT dropped by Craig Ferguson. MP3: The Ting Tings - Great DJ (CH Mix)

If the altGods came down from AltHeaven, and told u that u had to wear a t-shirt which featured a sillie rendering of a free-spirited penis that may or may not have an STD for the rest of ur life, which shirt would u wear? The sillie phallic symbol face t-shirt? (Please ignore the post-TV on the Radio blipster on the left). [Photo by GadeMode ] or the Yo Gabba Gabba/Kid Robot penis-infected-with-bumps t-shirt (made for cool dads and lil alts)? This is [...]

I enjoy blggng about 'new-ish' music videos in a recap-mega-post format because most 'made for youtube' era music videos are not newsworthy enough to blog abt by themselves, unless your music video is about coloured kids terrorizing a city . Van She - "Changes" Another video in the genre of 'tour diary where we showcase that our band is a group of sillie friends who are going through a meaningful experience on the road together' video. Other notable videos in this genre are the Strokes " Some Day ", Phantom [...]

Chromeo have unleashed a special treat for us this week - a 2-disc, deluxe edition of Fancy Footwork called Fanc ier Footwork . The collection includes remixes (by MSTRKRFT, Yuksek, Laidback Luke), greatest hits, and 5 music videos. The band are also busy with other projects, such as a Spinner reality show called Chromeo and Juliet , as well as an upcoming appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba! (fans of Joel McHale and The Soup will be very familiar with [...]
I was gonna include the new Jerk It remix by Jokers of the New Scene but I lost motivation halfway through the post. If you really want it you can find it here , here , and here . Okay, on the the real treat this evening, Yo Gabba Gabba . Just based off the one video below, Yo Gabba Gabba has earned a recording time slot in my DVR. Why the hell didn't Barney have dope beats like the one for the song Party In My Tummy ? Plus have [...]

Arguably Melbourne's best DJ / Producer is Miami Horror , he is just about head off to America for a tour with his band Gameboy / Gamegirl. 2008 has been a very successful year so far for Mr. Plant, his band has been signed to Sweat It Out, with their debut EP Golden Ghetto Sex out now. He has also toured Australia along side his label mates and he has also released a mix CD with Ajax. In the next few week two new remixes will be released, Talk like That" by The Presets and he did [...]

Will Sheff, the frontman and songwriter for Okkervil River , is like a novelist who works short musical form. So when they perform on Conan Tuesday night, even though it's only one song, it'll be a page-turner as well as barn-burner. The Austin band are great live performers, and Sheff's voice breaks and cracks reaching notes that meet his needed expression. It's no wonder he's prone to it giving out on him at the end of a tour (like last year.) And while it already aired this morning (early bird gets the worm,) [...]

It hasn't even aired yet and my 2-year old is already singing it's songs and requesting 'mo gabba gabba.' The show in question is Nick Jr's Yo Gabba Gabba , and the promos for it are insanely addictive. The show features giant muppets ala The Banana Splits , a hip-hop beat, regular segments from Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh and rapper Biz Markie , and a slew of guest stars like Elijiah Wood, The Shins and Tony Hawk. [...]
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon some pretty cool photos on Supernova's Myspace page. One of the photos had a caption which referenced the set of Yo Gabba Gabba! I investigated and learned about a cool new kids program from the folks at Nickelodeon. Sadly, I had forgotten about the show until I received an e-mail about The Shins appearing on the show this morning. So, what is Yo Gabba Gabba! anyhow? It's Nickelodeon's hip new music series for preschoolers, which premieres Monday, [...]
