Antigone Anagnostellis is one of our loyal Purple Sneakers contributors. Always on top of what's happening in our music world, she's a dedicated member to Australia's music scene. She's interviewed some pretty big names for us in the past, such as Yolanda Be Cool , The Vaccines , Oh Mercy , Northeast Party House and it-boy Flume . But who is she actually listening to at the moment? We thought we'd find out by grabbing her top ten Soundcloud tracks! After you Antigone! "New ta-ku" [...]

Yes YOLANDA BE COOL have had a world wide number one but they also have a growing list of beatport hits, made only for the club. They are as comfortable in Morocco, as a guest of the king, performing before 90,000 people, as they are in a Berlin basement performing for 90. For them, in music and in life, it's the differences that make the difference, whether it be a 19502s Italian folk song, juxtaposed with a fruity techno beat (go on, you know the one), or dinner in Monaco one day, Berghain [...]

Bondi boys YOLANDA BE COOL are a duo we're all very familiar with. Signees of iconic label Sweat It Out!, the dudes are probably most well known for their collaborative single with DCup - 'We No Speak Americano'. Since then, they've gone on to release a bunch of songs, remixes and collaborations, their latest being the pairing up of the dudes and Gurrumul as they recently released their track titled 'A Baru In New York' (which has been remixed by both Flume and Chocolate Puma ). [...]

Salacious Sound - Podcast 027: Yolanda Be Cool Joining us all the way from Bondi for a very special Salacious Sound Podcast are Australian duo, Yolanda Be Cool. The tracklist features an engaging mix of current club house along with Yolanda Be Cool's own unique take on the genre. Just try and tell me you've heard tracks as out-there as A Baru In New York from other artists of this high a caliber. You can't, and I love them for it. [...]
This unique collaboration which has brought together three groundbreaking Australian artists, Gurrumul,Yolanda Be Cool and Flume, has already been labelled as an important bridge between Indigenous and non Indigenous music. Flume's managed to create almost electro-orchestral backing, while retaining the sense of history and dignity which is such a quality of Gurrumul's music. "Gurrumul is so impressed with how his song with Yolanda Be Cool was reinterpreted by Flume," said Gurrumul's friend and collaborator Michael Hohnen. " Gurrumul and I listened together to the remix, sitting on the floor, in front of a huge stereo system. He proclaimed at the end of it - "that sounds like a [...]

You all should be familiar with YOLANDA BE COOL , the boys from Sweat It Out! have been busy pumping out new material and their latest offering ‘A Baru In New York’ is something to be marvelled at. Not only have YOLANDA BE COOL created a lovely melody to this track, they’ve enlisted the help of legendary singer GURRUMUL to add in his own beautiful flavour to the track making it more amazing than first thought. Our buddy FLUME has taken the reins [...]
When most people hear the name Yolanda Be Cool, they immediately think of the international dance hit "We No Speak Americano." Thus, at first glance, a remix by chilled-out bass music producer Flume appears a little off-kilter. When you consider the fact that both Yolanda Be Cool and Flume are Australian, the scenario makes a little more sense. Flume's take on Yolanda Be Cool's ethnic house track "A Baru in New York" is worlds apart from the original. With a three minute build up consisting of wailing voices and orchestric synths, the sudden trap-influenced drop is a gratifying surprise. [...]
Flume is by far my favorite australian (he just beat out Ian Thorpe ) and his new remix to Yolanda Be Cool 's track, A Baru in New York, just cements his place on the top of my list of lads from down under. This huge remix has one of the most interesting intros I have heard and then when you least expect it the song drops into a huge electronic anthem. I have seen pictures of Flume with the likes of Skrillex popping up on my instagram and it has me incredibly excited for the [...]

A lot of surprising things about this song. Firstly, I never thought I would see Yolanda Be Cool, famous for 'We No Speak Americano', alongside Flume. Secondly, I never thought I would hear Flume make this kind of music. This whole song reminds me of the sountrack from The Lion King, as weird as that [...]

Yolanda Be Cool have created a track with the legendary Gurrumul titled 'A Baru In New York'. Gurrumul is a native Australian Aboriginal who sings in the Yolngu language and most noticeably in 2008 was nominated for four ARIA awards, winning the awards for Best World Music Album and Best Independent Release. The story of this song is best described by the Sweat It Out signed duo themselves: "Initially, this track was our "tribal" house tune for the Album. With big drums, a soaring synth and the unmistakable vox of Gurrumul, we were extremely happy to [...]

Both Yolanda Be Cool and Flume have been making some big moves as of late, and this cinematic beauty of a remix by Flume encapsulates things perfectly. It's being released by my favourite Australian label bar none, Sweat It Out , and if you're so inclined you can watch the music video of the original here .
