Peace of Mind -> Follow Me To The Riverside -> Peace Of Mind - Yonder Mountain String Band 9.21.03 - Austin City Limits, Austin, TX Yonder always brings a certain warmth to their shows, and most importantly to their audience. You can tell they're just genuinely grateful the opportunity to be playing a unique blend of bluegrass, rock, and a little bit of everything else for the masses. In many ways I think it explains why their shows are so upbeat with smiling faces throughout the room. I'm hoping I can catch them [...]

(The most mainstream Yes album) + (A single with maybe the most exhilarating riff in history) X (a video with maggots) = Classic rock. Owner-Trevor Rabin (Live) I Like It (Feat. Boo And Mack Maine)-Lil Wayne Owner Of A Lonely Heart (1 minute remix)-Yes. All the best parts, no filler. Owner-Grizzly Bear Owner Things (Yes vs Howard Jones)-Saint Bernadette [...]
The live music universe is a world filled with ebbs and flows of energy; when things get busy, they really get busy and then there will be a down period. Suffice to say that in Chicago, right when that 90 day limit Lollapalooza puts on its performers finishes , October is busy. Everyone is touring. In addition, there have been a number of announcements of late pertaining to New Years Eve. So gathered here is a pretty solid compendium of who's playing where on December 31st. The venue link will get you to ticket information for the mentioned shows. [...]
Yonder Mountain String Band - "Half Moon Rising" On a typical day, I don't reach for bluegrass; however, a recently rekindled love affair with Colorado-based bluegrass group Yonder Mountain String Band has me reaching for bluegrass more than I used to. As their name implies, YMSB is a quartet of stringed instruments (banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass), and with the possible exception of their self-titled album (of which I've only heard the AmazonMP3 preview snippets), you won't hear any percussion on YMSB's songs. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way. [...]

if you havent noticed, captains dead is now in bed with mog . honestly, i really never bothered visiting mog up until a couple of weeks ago, cause quite frankly i get my social networking fill through this dump. but after meandering around mog i have found it to be pretty cool. there's a few things i would change, but its not my bat and ball. anyway, they have a great video interview with craig finn up right now, along with some other artists. i dont know how the yonder mountain string band's [...]
Been awhile since I posted some bluegrass or old time string music, especially some with some good advice for your love life. Yonder Mountain String Band "If There's Still Ramblin' In The Rambler" (mp3) from "Elevation" (Frog Pad Records) Buy...
Everybody Does it in Hawaii - Jimmie Rodgers The first artist that comes to mind here is probably Elvis Presley, right? Or the Hawaii Five-O theme tune (did you know that Dweezil Zappa has recorded the latter?)? Or maybe even Brian Wilson? Well how about something a little off the beaten track for the youngest of the 50 states (which became the 50th state on August 21st, 1959)? Also worth a mention is John Prine's Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian. And The Strokes' Hawaii Aloha is also pretty... Please visit Ceci N'est Pas un Blog for [...]

Did you know that Tom Petty was in a band before Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers made Gainesville famous? I mean, I assumed he had been in a number of bands while starting out, but I didn't think any were of much consequence. I guess perhaps had it not been for Tom inviting the original members of Mudcrutch up to his place for some reminiscing and recording he wouldn't have been...but he did, and it was. Now, I'm not gonna try and paint myself as some Petty maniac. I like 6 or 7 songs off each album but [...]
the san francisco edition of the 2008 green apple music festival will wrap with a free show tomorrow afternoon at speedway meadow in golden gate park. yonder mountain string band and brett dennen will be playing, along with a handful of others. things will kick off around noon o'clock or so. we should hope you don't need an excuse to hang outside, but if you do a free music & arts festival is a pretty durn good one. brett dennen - can't slow down [...]

I apologize that this list is kind of cheating, but that's only because there have been two really great Beatles cover albums released in the past few years. I've still never seen "I Am Sam", but the soundtrack is amazing. In fact, I think Ben Folds' version of "Golden Slumbers" can totally hang with Paul's, no question. The second album most of these songs come from, "This Bird Has Flown" was a tribute to "Rubber Soul" released in 2005. I originally thought that we had Michael Jackson's failing finances to thank for these cover albums (which [...]
