Yoni Gordon and The Good's impressive 2009 album 'Turning Chaos Into A Career' merited a spot in our end of year top albums list. The troubadour was back this year with the album 'Country For The Timid' offering a completely different angle. Temporarily parking The Goods in favour of a guitar and voice combo makes [...]
I can say with absolute certainty that at least 50% of the Teenage Kicks staff is 100% positive that The Pogues "Fairytale of New York" is better than 99.9 % of all other Christmas songs, and 78% sure that it's almost impossible to ruin. It blends the sweet and sadness of Christmas, gives equal import to both the hope and desperation prevalent during the holidays. It also lends credence to the notion of Shane MacGowan as one of rock's greatest songwriters, as only he could conjure up this mixture of blood, beer, sweat and junk commingling with simple dreams of [...]
This is the classic "underdog" inclusion to my top albums. Despite not having the same financial backing that other artists on this list had few releases in 2009 could match Yoni Gordon and the Goods for sheer passion. 'Turning Chaos Into A Career' works as an album because it many dynamics yet maintains an an [...]

Brooklyn-based indie rockers Yoni Gordon & the Goods are covering a classic Christmas single for charity. With the help of The Hold Steady's Franzy Nicolay and singer Emilyn Brodsky, the group is making their version of The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" available for download. Gordon is asking that donations be mad to Feeding America who support local foodbanks across the United States. If

Yoni Gordon and the Goods , along with Franz Nicolay (of the Hold Steday!) and special guest vocalist Emilyn Brodsky recently covered The Pogues' classic/my favourite Christmas song of all time, "Fairytale in New York". You can download it in a special 2-song Christmas single from Yoni Gordon and the Goods' site . The band is also asking everyone to donate $5 (or more) to Feeding America . Here is the link to the donation page .
Yesterday's Yoni Gordon post reminded me I received the video for The So So Glos' rather ace 'My Block' track a few weeks ago. Taken from their recent Tourism/Terrorism album, the video follows frontman Alex Levine as he takes a mischievous walk around the block. I had managed to avoid making any reference to the festive period up until this moment…. but when Cougar Microbes favourites Yoni Gordon and the Goods sent me their charity single I knew I would have to break that rule. Yoni and co. are putting our a Christmas single this week. The A-side is a a [...]
Yoni Gordon and The Goods' latest album 'Turning Chaos Into A Career' has had me returning for repeated listens above and beyond the call of duty. The passionate frontman and his gang showcase a comprehensive set of songs and an album that doesn't lag at any stage. The band are frequently accosted to 'Ted Leo & [...]

Saturday was the last night for CMJ and by then I was feeling the effects of the previous 4 days, little sleep, being drunk every night, passing out on my couch rather then my bed, and exhaustion. So when it was time to go see some bands on sat, I was relived that my night would start earlier than usual at Spike Hill in billyburg listening to some good 'ol fashion rock and roll. The first band to come on was Yoni Gordan and the [...]

It's very difficult to listen to Turning Chaos Into A Career, the new album from NYC trio Yoni Gordon and the Goods, without drawing comparisons with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.Like Leo, Gordon's sound is based heavily in the power pop/punk stream. At times, such as on songs like "Dead But Not Forgotten" and "Waiting For The World To End", the melodic and energetic songs burst forth with the
Brooklyn indie rock trio Yoni Gordon and the Goods are releasing their new album Turning Chaos Into a Career in October. Foreground: Yoni. Background: the national phallus. DOWNLOAD: Yoni Gordon and the Goods, "Buried in the Basement" [mp3] Remember when Brett Rosenberg's first record came out and you thought he might be the next Ted Leo? Remember how wrong you were? Are you ready to play this game again? Because here comes Yoni Gordon, another cocky little prick with an album's worth of songs that're twice as smart as they need to be and catchier than the clap. "Buried in the Basement" sounds like someone welded [...]
Yoni Gordon & the Goods, teaching kids how to rock. I've been living in a cesspool of mediocre music lately thanks to all these lovely submissions I keep getting, and Yoni Gordon came along a few days ago to pull me out of the pit. Get this: the man is the living reincarnation of the not-dead-yet Ted Leo. He must get sick of the comparison, but it's unbelievably true. Punk rock (I'm talking about the music, not the ideology, angry-comment-leaving people) lives on despite the modern heresies of "pop punk" and emo on one side and extremists of [...]
