by kevin diamond The Walkmen are better people then you. It's true. How many albums have you released digitally in advance of their street date with all proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center ? Oh. Really? That many? Geez, I had no idea... THE BLUE ROUTE BY THE WALKMEN: Well, Walkmen are doing it too. Their new album You & Me (not to be confused with [...]
For years, The Walkmen were a band I enjoyed but had difficulty fully getting behind, as it were. No matter how excellent records like Bows + Arrows were, I always heard a marked sense of struggle. Not any sort of personal struggle — the kind that acts as fuel for a creative fire — but the kind that strikes someone who's trying to live up to something. In The Walkmen's case, I've always seen this as an effort to identify and fully formulate an idea or a style that would live up to Jonathan Fire*Eater . The [...]

New Wax I really liked The Walkmen's debut album Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, but I haven't paid much attention to their last couple of albums. Having been pretty disappointed with the yawn-worthy recent efforts of fellow New York bands such as Interpol and The Strokes, I wondered if You & Me would continue the trend. The answer is a resounding no. You & Me is more than just solid, it's one of the better albums of 2008. The [...]

New York rockers The Walkmen have teamed up with AmieStreet.com for a pre-release of their new album ' You & Me ' to benefit charity. The album isn't due out until August 19, however if you head over to AmieStreet.com you can purchase the album for only $5 with the entire amount going towards the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center . ' You & Me ' is the follow-up to 2006's ' A Hundred Miles Off '. The Walkmen [...]
The Walkmen have become something of a musical institution in New York City, and the achievement of such popularity should come as no surprise. Their sound has been compared to U2, the Velvet Underground, and The Cure - bold but worthy comparisons. And the new album You & Me, officially being released August [...]
Shout-outs to an A to Z reader in San Diego who passed along this tidbit to me: The Walkmen -- who sold out the Duck Room in January -- are releasing You & Me on August 19. But if you want it now, click here and grab it for $5 -- especially since proceeds from the sales benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Luca Vasallo, a young pal of the band. 'Nuff said. -- Annie Zaleski

You & Me , the new album from The Walkmen , is shaping up to become one of my favorite albums of 2008. Its somber, lovelorn and melancholy tales are the perfect soundtrack for a 3AM soaked in alcohol and ... love, yes. I've been enjoying it so much that the band no longer wants to wait for you to have it. Starting today and for three weeks only, you can buy the album online for a mere $5. [...]

The Walkmen - "The New Year" - mp3 Saw this on GVB this morning, and as things have been a bit crazy for Stark of late ( see MGMT/Ting Tings show at McCarren pool ) we haven't had time to get to the stack of new stuff to listen to in our in-box. We'll get some new tunes up there soon though. As a side note - the pool was insane . MGMT sounded better than I had expected, and when they began playing "Time to Pretend" the huge crowd went [...]

The date of release of 'You & Me' is August 19th, but you can find it around the web for full download. I had the chance to listen and I have to say... on a first glance, it seems the same old The Walkmen . And then it starts to sound really really good. Check for yourself, it's worth if you like their former works. Those are my faves so far. But I always can change my mind: * mp3 - Dónde Está La [...]

After a brief holiday to the seaside (Bank holiday comes 6 times a year) and listening to some music old and new I've got some recommendations. If you're feeling adventurous I can recommend the new Richard Hawley album if you don't already have it(probably due a post as soon as Beth has heard it too) and the new album by Euros Childs with the cover that looks like once we were trees by beachwood sparks . All this and I've still got a backlog of music building up that needs a serious listen. [...]
