It's the home of The Fest, a plethora of fantastic bands and the birthplace of The Ruckus, but Fake Problems and You Blew It! want to make sure you know their great state of Florida doesn't suck. Based out of Naples and Orlando respectively, the two bands differ slightly in style but offer up four brand new slices of indie-punk/emo goodness. With You Blew It! having released a new record late last year, I have to admit I was more interested in hearing some fresh Fake Problems material. Recorded by the band's bass player, Derek Perry, the two [...]

You Blew It! are set to release their split with Fake Problems on February 12th via Topshelf . Good to see the band staying in form after a fantastic 2012. Stream "I'm A Kid, That's My Job" below

You Blew It! - Kevin, You're Such A Disease You Blew It! - Saddle Up, San Antonio These Orlando punks put out one of the best, most raucous records of 2012 -- Grow Up, Dude (Topshelf Records) -- but they cut their teeth with a pair of independently released EPs including 2010's The Past In Present , where the band lays down mathy, slinky guitar lines á la Look Mexico whilst tracking American Football-esque harmonies that will take [...]

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]
There was so much great music released in this year, maybe more than in any other year since I started compiling these lists. Narrowing the list down to just 50 was damn near impossible. In fact, just about everything on the list could be flipped around in some way, but these are what I've decided to go with. I'll be posting 10 of my favorite albums from 2012 each day this week with the top ten on Friday. Much more commentary to come as well. Cheers. 50. The Devil's Own [...]

Throughout the year, I keep a running playlist on my iPod with my favorite songs. Back in June we did a half way list , but lately I've been making amendments to my choices. And, since we just happened to have passed the 3/4 mark of 2012, it was a good excuse for a post. Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles This one came to me from Barlow, who I immediately messaged to get the name of the band [...]

As mentioned in our first "Best of 2012 So Far" post here , picking and choosing a list is a difficult task. There is always crying and self doubt and hours of rethinking involved in making Best Of lists and this was no exception. However, these are the albums we've been listening to start to finish from the first half of 2012. Apologies, I Have None - London Apologies, I Have None - Clapton Pond [...]

Define Emo for me. Go on, give it a try. The definition of Emo has been bastardized over the last decade to mean anyone that is reclusive, dyes their hair black and combs it over one eye (which, apparently, can cause lazy eye ). For me personally when I hear the word "Emo" my mind conjures up the sounds of Sunny Day Real Estate and Jawbreaker well before it takes into consideration Jimmy Eat World or any of the hundreds of Screamo bands that have somehow found their way onto the radio. One thing's for sure, Emo is one [...]

Our buddies (and all around talented dudes) You Blew It! recorded their track "Sneaky Fuckin' Russian" (from their 2012 EP The Past In Present ) for Ryan Russel's Nervous Energies while in Birmingham, AL last month. Check out the original recording here: Sneaky Fuckin' Russian by You Blew It! They're getting a little too famous for us, with a new album coming out this month ( Grow Up, Dude out on Topshelf Records) and a Fest 11 slot, but we'll [...]

When we set out to make these lists at the end of each year, we usually try to include tracks that aren't on the Best of Albums List to narrow down the choices. This year we took a more honest approach, but it was terrible to cut 365 days worth of songs down to a mere 25 tracks. We changed them up until the last possible minute, driving ourselves, our loved ones, and each other crazy with our "what if..."s. In the end, though, these are the songs that made us hit repeat, and carried us [...]
