Steam Whistle brought together three great bands this past weekend, for a phenomenal party at the Phoenix. The line-up consisted of local band Little Girls, Montreal natives Think About Life and British Columbia's You Say Party! We Say Die! When I got too the Phoenix Little Girls was just wrapping up their last song and the set change was taking place. The Phoenix was not full when Think About Life got on stage but soon after the first song the floor was busy with people dancing. Think About Life consisted of four high energy characters. With both vocalists, [...]
Toronto - I don't really listen to enough Canadian music. This I know to be true. This is possibly because I don't listen to much CBC Radio 3 . Anyways, Friday night was a big night for Canadian music. Over at Lee's Palace, there was the Rural Alberta Advantage, Bahamas and Fox Jaws show (you can read a review here ). While over on the East side of the city, Steamwhistle was presenting their very own Canadian night at the Phoenix, featuring Little Girls , Think About Life and You Say Party! We [...]

I've decided to start the weekend off with another fine song from the Abbotsford, British Columbia indie-rock/dance-punk quintet You Say Party! We Say Die! . Laura Palmer's Prom is another number from the band's most recent album XXXX , released on September 29th of this year; the song does well in conjuring up a dreamy 80s feel that could certainly serve as the backdrop to some kind of Brat Pack montage. At present, the band is knee-deep in a Canadian tour that will be hitting Windsor, Waterloo, Toronto, and Sudbury next week; the remaining tour stops are listed below. [...]

Halifax Pop Explosion 2009
For those unfamiliar with Halifax, the timid Canadian city performs an annual Megatron-like transformation at the end of each October. Barrington Street goes from mildly intoxicated and raucous to Amy Winehouse on amphetamines with a megaphone. Venues crank subwoofers from comfortable thumping to post-tracheotomy Barry White levels. Mornings involve waking to find a group of [...]
