Luddites would like to argue that's no serendipity in digital music - that without the musty smell of vinyl record sleeves and decaying covers to flip through, there can be no true discovery. This has never been true: from the earliest days of P2P, clicking through another user's library looking for intriguing album titles, to Last.fm recommendations, there's an infinite number of ways to find something special. I found Young and Sexy's "City You Live in is Ugly" on Rdio by following one related link after another in an indie-pop rabbit hole. The 2002 track is the best song from [...]

When Chris Connelly from Edmonton's Hot Panda answered my call, he had no idea he was supposed to be doing an interview. Hot Panda's tour van had just just died and he was putting the license plate on their new van. Chris didn't even flinch when I suggested we play a little game of kill, fuck or marry with his fellow Mint Records stars Shane (from The Awkward Stage ), Paul from [...]
![It's a Team Mint Xmas Vol. 2! – Mint Records [X-mas Audio #9]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2216434_lg.jpg)
I gotta tellya, I find Mint Records to be a maddeningly inconsistent label, albeit one with a ridiculous amount of spirit propelling it forward (hear/sample some of it via the two FREE MP3s posted below). It's a Team Mint Xmas Vol. 2 , sure enough, does double duty when it comes to testing my patience, its songs jumping wildly from rock-a-billy-fried punk to Ventures -esque instrumental rock to Social Distortion / Mike Ness -style acoustic storytelling to ecstatic pop with no twee [...]

![Young And Sexy: Panic When You Find It [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1591969_lg.jpg)
As a young boy my exposure to music was limited to Oldies. I fell in love with groups like The Beatles and The Beach Boys. My father was especially fond of James Taylor so, naturally, I enjoyed his music as well. Growing older I became rebellious and searched out newer music sources, shunning my early loves and growing my hair to a painful-looking shoulder-length. Looking back at pictures of me with the less-slick Stephen Segal pony-tail make me cringe. But I guess we all go through such phases. I eventually came around to revert back to some of those early [...]

As I discovered the weekend before last, one of the perks of being a member of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, is that once a year you get to attend what is undoubtedly the most boring party in the city. To be fair, the words "Member Appreciation Dinner" don't really sound like fun at all, so it's not exactly like they led me on. I wasn't expecting to be the only person there under the age of thirty, but hey, you live and you learn. This year was the first (and probably the last!) one I [...]
![Young And Sexy: The Curious Organ [Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1483876_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense Upon discovering Young And Sexy ( MySpace ) in the preview rack at KZUU last year, "The Curious Organ" became a quick favorite of mine, topped only by "Conventional Lullabies". Panic When You Find It also made my personal top 20 albums of 2006. "The Curious Organ" begins with lyrics Time of the season which immediately draw reference to The Zombies as the instrumentation has similarities to the group, though not the song. I've been aching for some [...]

Saucerful of Fire, the first track on The Arc [ buy ], from Vancouver's indie darlings Young and Sexy , is a lush and narcotic piece of baroque pop that falls somewhere between the psychedelic/folk rock of Love and the twee/chamber pop of Belle and Sebastian . Saucerful of Fire mp3 [...]
Toronto - Paparazzi. Star Wars Kid. These two things dominated the Young and Sexy NXNE showcase on Friday, June 13. Young and Sexy is indie band from Vancouver that features the musical stylings of one Lucy Brain and one Paul Hixon. Theres also a guitarist, drummer and bass. They don't sound that much like a west coast band, opting for more guitar layering and vocal interplay rather then all out poppy soundss that other bands from the West coast seem to have. They are not really young and sexy either. I would venture to think most of them [...]

A special NxNE preview edition! Young & Sexy / The Arc ( Mint ) I've given up that Young & Sexy will ever be the band I hoped they'd become since their 2002 debut Stand Up To Your Mother , which is to say a bonafide Canadian answer to Belle & Sebastian. But rather than hone the great twee-pop promise that record showed, they [...]
So after about three days, we have a first for The Daily Graboid: A Saturday edition! Believe me, this was not my intention at all, as I meant to have this up by Thursday at least. But, you know how sometimes you just put off something, and continue to do so to the point where you completely lose interest in it altogether. Now that it's the weekend, maybe you've already bought your albums this week. Got the new Death Cab For Cutie ? Great! Still, there's reason enough to check all of the other great releases that [...]
Vancouver's Young And Sexy are a melodically and artistically inventive baroque pop/rock band that remind me of a sublime mix of The Mamas & The Papas, New Pornographers, Joni Mitchell's "Hissing of Summers Lawns" and The Go-Betweens' 16 Lovers Lane. Y&S are now into their 10th year together and have recently released their fouth album, The Arc . The band includes Paul Pittman on vocals & guitar, Lucy Brain on singing, guitarist André Lagacé, Alex Brain on drums and Brent McDonald on bass. Warm and inviting, impressionistic [...]
Remember, not too long ago actually, when every time you heard a vibrant new band you discovered they came from North America, Canada to be precise. It may have cover a huge landmass but in terms of population there are quite a few relatively dwarf-like European countries that eclipse. It seems the Canadian Government wisely decided to invest in the Arts and the result was an explosion in

Yeesh. Mint Records has quite a few bands with some concern-icus names. Like their equally ill-monikered labelmates (The Buttless Chaps), Young and Sexy is entering year ten of existence and has never managed to convert immense talent into record sales. They are loved by fans and critics, but never seem to get the credit they deserve. It could be due to the ever changing lineup and big gaps between releases, or maybe how the band is never satisfied with a stagnant sound. Over the years Paul Hixon Pittman and Lucy Brain have shifted and evolved [...]

Today I'm going to post artists none of you have ever heard before. EVER. Let's start with a little band called Death Cab For Cutie. HAHA JUST KIDDING AHFSLJFKDS I'M SO TIRED LET'S DO THIS. Young & Sexy! Honestly I don't think they are that sexy...not sure how young they are either. But their music is pretty sexy. Your Enemy's Asleep The Curious Organ The Amazing Pilots!
