Summer is creeping in and with that you'll of noticed a host of Festivals taking place in just about every corner of the globe. Dot to Dot Festival started back in 2005 in Nottingham bringing together some top music acts across a number of venues. Fast forward to 2012 and the event has grown to three cities, all playing host to the chosen bands over a weekend. This years event will take place over the weekend of June 2nd to 4th in Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester. It's sure to be a great way to spend the bank holiday [...]
Patterns - Daniel Cheetham This week and next, our resident Mancunian writer John Freeman will be taking a closer look at the unique and bustling music scene that Manchester boasts as its very own. So to kick things off, we've got our paws on this exclusive Manchester based offering as today's Song Of The Day, a Patterns remix of the Young British Artists track 'Bring The Sun'. 'Bring The Sun' has been lifted from its driving, lo-fi, guitar driven roots to harbour a completely [...]
Considering it's rich history and iconic heritage, it fills me with great pride to see my homeland's music scene thriving. Spanning the UK's many aural genres, there's a myriad of music to suit all tastes and dispositions. It's been a challenge to cull this list down to just ten artists, but those who are listed here have earned my vote as the top bands in Britain today. Coming straight from Tyneside, this eclectic act blends elements of electronica and krautrock, resulting in locomotive-like grooves, [...]
Matthew Britton is our human blog-music aggregator, kind of like Hype Machine but with feelings and shit. Every week he goes, puts on his rubber gloves and trawls the darkest sewers of Soundcloud , reporting back to TLOBF with his findings. Sometimes he strikes gold, sometimes just faeces, but one day, maybe, just maybe, a band covered here will play an actual gig in front of human people. We continue to live in hope. As these words are being typed, there is an event going on in London that makes this whole piece [...]
As 2010 wraps up, I wanted to highlight one artist and exhibit that truly astounds. The Young British Artist is Fiona Banner and her exhibit - on display since June at the Tate Britain - is the Duveens Commission 2010, AKA Harrier and Jaguar. Both pieces are huge, on account that they are the completely assembled bodies of two decommissioned fighter planes - a British Aerospace Sea Harrier hung upside down, and a SEPECAT Jaguar laying belly up, with an elegant [...]
L-R: Ducktails // Young British Artists // Yuck When narrowing down the 200 or so bands featured on ANBAD this year to the final few, I tried to consider the words I wrote about the bands at the time as much as how much I like them now. This way the band has been reviewed twice: with fresh and familiar ears. I'm sure I've missed a number of brilliant bands who deserve to be listed. Please leave a comment if you feel that any [...]
I came across this story whilst perusing the web... it's about Irv Gordon who has a Volvo with 2,800,000 miles on it. Let me say that again - 2,800,000 miles on it. That's a WHOLE lot of frikkin' miles. He's apparently planning to hit the 3 million mark and then wants to sell the car for 3 million. I say "GOOD FOR YOU!" This story completely ruins my plans on driving my car to the 1 million mark. I thought 1 million would be amazing, but 2.8 million already destroys it. I'm still [...]
Perhaps it's the dizzying depth of the new bands sprouting in the Manchester music scene at the moment, or perhaps it's sheer, dumb, laziness on my part. Admittedly, the latter is the most likely, though there are just so many fascinating bands in and around Manchester now, that you, and I, would be forgiven for assuming the former as most probable. Either way, I ought to have covered Young British Artists months ago. I didn't though, so today am making amends [...]

Young British Artists are a Manchester band who are releasing their debut 73 on August 3rd. More of an EP than a single, the release will contain four songs (one that we've kindly been cleared to share with you). Small Waves EP will be available via Red Deer Club Recordings. What others are saying about Young British Artists : "Slap in the face potential here right from the start... this band are brilliant and could be up for mainstream [...]

The Great Escape: 2011 Festival Preview [Thursday]
Words: Saam Das Back in 2006, not long after this blog started, I ventured down to Brighton for the first ever Great Escape festival . With over 100 bands appearing over three days, I caught acts like The Spinto Band , The Young Knives and Tapes n Tapes all in relatively tiny venues. Now, the festival's much bigger and I'm heading back. One of the biggest problems of the [...]

Quick Hits: Young British Artists
Young British Artists are a British four piece (duh). Manchester to be exact. They play that post rock sound that you may equate to Interpol spliced up with the Strokes...or you may not. I... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Hello Manchester!
I was just going through my diary for the week and released there is a whole heap of great local bands playing in Manchester this week. Here are three newish ones I have been checking out of late. Young British Artists play the Night and Day on Tuesday and first came to my attention during In The City. I was stumbling around after losing people and ended up in the Ruby Lounge watching them by myself and they were a highlight of the whole weekend. My favourite track by [...]
